Starr’s Mill’s Hibbs wins cheerleader of the year

Our district’s cheerleaders rank among the best of the best in the nation, as evidenced by state awards from the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association (GCCA).

Starr’s Mill High’s Emma Hibbs was named the GCCA Cheerleader of the Year for Division 1A-4A. Hibbs will receive the award and scholarship at the GHSA State Finals in November. The Starr’s Mill competitive cheer team is coached by Mandy Ratliff.

At Whitewater High, Kerri Rhodes and Kyndall Frenelle are selected to the GCAA All-State team. The team is led by Sarah Frazier.

McIntosh’s Macy DeBoy and Emma Bednarowski made the top 30 for Cheerleader of the Year. Emma Bednarowski also made the All-State Team for Division 5A-7A. The team is led by Shannon Bednarowski.

Cheerleaders are nominated for the honor by their coaches, followed by an application, an essay and a community recommendation section. Applicants are narrowed down to 60 who compete at Columbus State University through an appearance and interview.

All-state teams of 16 members are selected for each division, along with a cheerleader of the year.
