MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins, in partnership with Pepsi Stronger Together, hosted 50 South Florida high school students for an immersive two-day experience as part of the Football UNITES™ Captains program on May 20-21. August.

As the Miami Dolphins vs. Las Vegas Raiders preseason game kicked off on Saturday, August 20, students were invited to participate in the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) circle of identity programming led by Dolphins staff, community service projects and pre-game activities on the field before watching the game at Hard Rock Stadium.

The following day, participants helped pack food at Feeding South Florida and concluded the show by presenting solutions to a community service message to a panel of judges. On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders joined these students to share their stories, perspectives and experiences.

“We are excited to bring back the Captains Program and partner with Pepsi Stronger Together to make a truly positive impact on the lives of young people in our communities,” said Senior Director of Community Relations & of the Miami Dolphins. Youth programs RaShauna Hamilton said. “With a shared commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion in our communities, we worked to create activities that give students the opportunity to think critically, engage in service projects while having fun with soccer.”

Participants in this event included students from Football Unites™ community partners, including Big Brothers Big Sisters Broward, Big Brother Big Sisters Miami-Dade, Breakthrough Miami, and National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment.

“My favorite part of the weekend was working on the service project,” said Amanda Nuñez, a National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment student. “I met a lot of new people and I really liked interacting with different people from different backgrounds.”

“It feels good to know that the Miami Dolphins and Pepsi Stronger Together care about younger kids and the younger generation,” said Breakthrough Miami student Moise Telfort.

The Captains Program is part of Football UNITES™ annual programming focused on diversity and inclusion initiatives that brings together youth from diverse backgrounds for a weekend of learning about tolerance, acceptance and leadership. Since its inception, more than 150 students have participated in workshops and activities while learning about the community through a shared experience with Miami Dolphins alumni and cheerleaders.

The Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ program strives to connect the intersections of the community to create a more inclusive South Florida. Working with more than 50 community partners and allies, the program focuses on enhancing relationships, fostering understanding and experiencing culture throughout South Florida.
