JACKSONVILLE – Day 2 was a good day for the starting quarterback.
Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars’ starting quarterback and No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, turned in one of the best practices of his career on Tuesday. This was on Day 2 of Jaguars 2022 Training Camp, a practice of about an hour and 40 minutes at the Knight Sports Campus at Jacksonville Episcopal School.
“He sets the tone,” Jaguars veteran tight end Evan Engram said.
The Jaguars held extended sessions of seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 work on Tuesday, with observers crediting Lawrence with just one incomplete pass in the periods. In a more extensive and longer practice than Monday’s Day 1 work, Lawrence looked confident throughout and appeared quick in his decision-making process.
“When the quarterback takes control and we make plays, and everybody gets confidence and everybody feels it … it’s definitely special for that to happen,” Engram said.
Defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell spoke to the media before practice on Tuesday, with outside linebacker Josh Allen speaking to the media after practice. What’s available on Tuesday can be seen on jaguars.com and Jaguars Media channels.
The Jaguars will practice again at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday with an off day scheduled for Friday. The first full pads practice of the ’22 camp is scheduled for Sunday, with all practices closed to the public. The Jaguars practice on the Episcopal sports campus while construction continues on their sports performance facility near TIAA Bank Field.
That facility is projected to be completed by the 2023 training camp.
The Jaguars worked out Tuesday in temperatures that reached 85 degrees and felt in the low 90s. They worked in shorts and helmets with no full pads for a second consecutive day under league rules.
“We still have some things we have to fix,” Engram said. “There are always mistakes we have to go in and fix, but if we can keep the ball off the ground and have good ball security, get up the field and play after the catch and block up front , making explosive runs, it’s definitely a good day.
“We’re always going to find something to build on.”
