Former NY Jets coach Rex Ryan is certainly diversifying his resume as he was recently named one of the contestants on Season 34 of CBS’ “The Amazing Race.”
The reality TV show follows 12 teams of two who embark on a race around the world equipped with a very limited budget. The first couple to reach the final destination wins $1 million.
Ryan is partnered with his friend Tim Mann on the series and will compete against other duos — long-lost twins, former NFL cheerleaders and more.
Ryan talked a bit about his friendship with Mann in a promo video for the show.
“Our story kind of started with his love for the Buffalo Bills. And the fact that I failed miserably as the coach of the Buffalo Bills.”
Currently an analyst for ESPN, Ryan coached the Jets for six years from 2009 to 2014 and then spent a short time with the Buffalo Bills.
He led the Jets to back-to-back winning seasons in 2009 and 2010, and in his first three seasons the Jets finished in the top five in yards allowed per game each year.
Throughout his career, Ryan has developed a reputation for his outspoken personality and has since settled comfortably into his role as an analyst, unafraid to criticize his former team.
Ryan’s appearance on “The Amazing Race” will be… interesting, to say the least. His NFL experience doesn’t seem particularly useful when it comes to traveling the world, but Ryan will certainly make the most of his experience.
