PROSPER, Texas – The Prosper community is helping a cheerleader injured during practice.

Haylee Alexander was injured while in a cheerleading gym.

The talented teenager is a cheerleader for a competitive team and the local school team. The 15-year-old remains in the Plano ICU.

There is an old Prospero saying “small town, big heart”.

That heart is visible in the pink and turquoise ‘Haylee Strong’ signs posted on some Prosper subways.

“Everybody is stepping up and people are ready and willing to help right now,”¬†family friend Tatum Curry said.

He continues to provide support for Alexander.

On Monday, August 22, Alexander was training at his cheerleading gym when he suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was taken to the emergency room in Medical City Plano.

Alexander is also a cheerleader for Prosper’s JV cheer team.

Friends and teammates await any updates from the hospital, knowing it will likely be a long road.

“I take him to school every day, so the first day he wasn’t in the car with us was a bummer,” said family friend Mallory Roberts.

But Alexander’s family also wants the community to know they are reaching out for help.

“Haylee is the kind of girl you dream of having as your daughter and you hope your child finds that kind of friendship in her life,” Roberts said. “For example, my daughter had surgery a few weeks ago. Haylee came and sat with her all day and helped her. That’s what we want to do for them.”

Friends of the family said the teenager is a very talented entertainer, and called him a “joy”.

Her competitive team was world champion last year, and she also made an appearance on America’s Got Talent.

The Prosper community is supporting the sale of ‘Haylee Strong’ T-shirts where all proceeds will go to the Alexander family.

“Talking to her mom, every time she sees a ribbon or a shirt, she knows Haylee is loved,” Roberts said. “People are thinking about him and praying for him, so that’s what we want.”

They have already sold 1,400 shirts and raised $35,000 for the family.

The Prosper community has felt this pain before.

Almost a year ago, Prosper college cheerleader Makayla Noble was paralyzed in a freak accident.

Makayla’s family posted on Instagram, “It breaks our hearts to know another family in our town is going through this.”

“This is not a sprint. This is going to be a marathon,” Curry said.

Alexander’s support system remains strong for the long haul.

“He’s always wanted to cheer in college,” Curry said. “And I have no doubt he will accomplish that goal.”

“Pray. Pray for Haylee and pray for her family,” Roberts said.
