Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader to appear on ‘American Idol’

Kyle Tanguay is looking to move from wing to center.

The Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader will appear on the Feb. 23 episode of ABC’s “American Idol.” Tanguay will be auditioning in front of celebrity judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan in her quest to win the Golden Ticket to the Hollywood pageant tournament.

Tanguay is the first male cheerleader for the Philadelphia Eagles in three decades. He told PhiladelphiaEagles.com that auditioning for the Eagles was helpful for the “American Idol” audition.

“I stepped out of my comfort zone to audition to be an Eagles Cheerleader, and I took that same mentality into this endeavor. I just went for it!” he said on the team’s news website. “The whole experience was truly amazing, and I’m so grateful that I can apply the skills I’ve learned from being an Eagles Cheerleader to different avenues in my life.”

Tanguay has some obstacles in his audition, but he never sang solo in front of an audience. She is not even professionally trained, having gained singing experience from YouTube karaoke channels.

Tanguay isn’t the only Pennsylvanian to appear on “American Idol” this season. Lower Merion resident Louis Knight appeared in the Season 3 premiere and already earned his golden ticket.
