Are NFL Cheerleaders Paid? Here’s what the average salary is
Considering how much time NFL cheerleaders devote to their teams and how much they are worth to an NFL franchise, it’s hard to believe they earn so little.
Sometimes cheerleaders are required to arrive at games five hours before the performance, or spend 30-40 hours a week practicing, yet they are paid significantly less than everyone else who participates in the stadium.
In fact, they don’t just earn a little, they earn minimum wage. Fifteen-year-old paramedics who just started their first job make the same amount of money as those cheerleaders who spend 14-hour days at the stadium and most of their lives on buses to and from games.
In 2021, NFL cheerleaders finally took a stand and took the opportunity to file lawsuits to help their cause.
As the 2022-23 season approaches, let’s take a look at what NFL cheerleaders make today and why it’s so little:
How much does an average NFL cheerleader make per game?

They also receive $50 to $75 if they are featured for public speaking. So, the more you show off in front of the camera, the more you’ll get paid.
How much do the highest-paid NFL cheerleaders make?

In 2021, a series of lawsuits brought by these cheerleaders resulted in 10 of the 26 NFL teams being sued for wage theft, unsafe working conditions, sexual harassment and discrimination.
The lawsuits included teams such as the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Tampa Bay cheerleaders’ lawsuit settled for a reported $825,000, and the Cincinnati cheerleaders settled for $255,000, according to the Expert Institute.
Since then, a national conversation has erupted about the exploitation of women in sports, and now cheerleaders are respected and paid a bit more — but still not as much as they should be.
