PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Auditions continue Sunday night on American Idol and we have another homegrown hopeful to root for.

It’s not hard to root for Kyle Tanguay. He is the first male cheerleader for the Eagles in more than three decades.

He is also a self-taught singer and musician and his enthusiasm is off the charts.

During his audition in front of American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, he definitely gets the spirit award – but will Kyle get the golden ticket?

As you can see, the 21-year-old idol hopeful brought the whole team with her to her audition in Washington DC and has quite the cheering committee there.

“I was lucky! It made me feel less nervous. They were with me at my first game when I was so scared and now they’re with me for this – it’s been great,” he said.

Kyle is a senior dance student at the University of the Arts and moved to Philly from New Hampshire.

Action News visited him at Lincoln Financial Field on Friday morning. He says he loves this city and you could call him one of our best cheerleaders – in every sense.

“I love this city. I love the fans – it’s the most inclusive, most diverse city there is,” he said.

Kyle had no professional singing training. He says he learned by watching YouTube videos!

“I was so scared to audition in DC. I had no singing experience and to sing a pop solo in front of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie – I was so out of my comfort zone. It was my first solo ever,” He said.

Kyle and the crew will be watching this Sunday’s episode together as we wait to see if they get their coveted golden ticket to Hollywood.

Last week, Narberth’s Louis Knight went Hollywood with the original song “Change,” which he wrote about the death of a friend.

Knight is a 19-year-old Lower Merion High School senior who also auditioned for the judges in Washington, DC.

American Idol airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on 6abc.
