Camps: Day 2

JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars 2022 Training Camp continues Tuesday.

This is the second day of the first training camp under Head Coach Doug Pederson, featuring an unpadded training at the Knight Sports Campus of the Episcopal School of Jacksonville. Each day throughout camp, four Jaguars Media members — senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor JP Shadrick and team reporter Ashlyn Sullivan — will share observations.

Here are our “campservations” Tuesday:

We’re not going to do every “campservations” entry about the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence, but the second-year veteran forced the issue Tuesday with his best practice in two NFL seasons. Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick. Lawrence had some good days during the recent offseason program, but this one felt different. He looks confident and seems to be making the right and quick decisions throughout the day. This may interest you : How to watch ‘Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team’ season 16 finale tonight with or without cable. Also notable: Many of his throws are downfield and to intermediate receivers, with few check-downs — an indication that Lawrence’s eyes are downfield and he’s looking for the right read. This is the type of “easy,” efficient practice you want to see early in training camp in non-padded jobs. It’s an encouraging day.

As I see it, there are two offensive line positions set with everything else can be decided. Cam Robinson will start at left tackle, with Brandon Scherff starting at right guard. Rookie Lukas Fortner has been working with the No. Right tackle is the battle that draws the most attention; Second-year veteran Walker Little worked in the first group Tuesday and looked good. He has excellent footwork, can really move and is very athletic for a big guy. See the article : Indiana cheerleader who saved ball during first round saved NIL deal. Jawaan Taylor looks more like someone who should play inside to me, an explosive player with great power but not the same lateral movement ability as Little. If Little wins the job, then Taylor will be the option at left guard. I continue to think he can be a deep Pro Bowl-level player where he can beat defenders in the running game. The good news is that there are plenty of options for Head Coach Doug Pederson to consider.

After a short first day, the second day of training camp extended to about an hour and a half and Lawrence showed accuracy throughout the day. Second year running back Travis Etienne Jr. told me after practice he no longer even thinks about the Lisfranc injury that ended his rookie season before it started, and it shows: He showed burst and quickness so far in camp. Outside linebacker Josh Allen spoke after practice and continued to praise No. 1 overall Travon Walker’s work ethic and ability. Walker certainly looks a long way off, but I’m really excited to see him on the pads for the first time over the weekend.

On a day where we heard all the defense and coordinator Mike Caldwell and Allen on the podium, the quarterback was the story. Lawrence had close to 100 percent completion rating during 11-on-11 and seven-on-seven periods: No ball dropped from the receiver in some tough contested catches. wide receiver Laquon Treadwell had the play of the day, with Lawrence dropping a dime down the sideline for 40 yards and Treadwell going up and making a catch over two defenders. On defense, Dawuane Smoot had a great day with what would have been two sacks in the game setting. The offensive line has had some issues with the snap, which is to be expected early in camp as players work to get their timing down. Overall, this is exactly what we want to see from Lawrence early in camp, progressing day by day and getting his timing down with receivers.
