Paralyzed teenager Makayla Noble cheers for fans again 6 months after accident

Makayla Noble, the 17-year-old who was paralyzed in a freak accident in September 2021, has returned to cheerleading six months after recovering from a severe back injury.

On Saturday, the mother of a Prosper, Texas, resident wrote on the Makayla War Facebook group that her daughter had a “very big announcement” to make.

He then revealed that Noble, who was paralyzed from the chest down after his accident and still can’t walk, was the one who created the scout team at Prosper High School.

“Makayla is a Prosper Varsity Cheerleader! She’s been hiding this news all week while trying out for her Senior Year!” mother, Jenn Noble, said on Facebook.

“Test week didn’t come without a lot of excitement for Makayla but she’s excited to be cheering again, something she thought she’d never do since her accident!” Jenn Noble said. “We don’t think this would be possible without the prayers and support from this community, so thank you again for always lifting up Makayla!”

The 17-year-old, a former world champion, chronicled his journey to become part of his school’s cheerleading squad on a YouTube video blog.

In the video, Makayla Noble said it is “exciting” to participate in the first community event as the leader of Prosper High School for the 2022/2023 season. The event in question was a “hope walk” to raise awareness about suicide prevention.

“I just want to say thank you for watching this video, it’s really been an emotional experience, as you can see,” Noble said. “But I think the biggest part of it is that I worked through them and I didn’t give up and I continued to show up every day and I continued to persevere and fight.’ And that’s what it is.”

In the video, Noble, who needs to use a wheelchair, talked about his struggles when it came to learning how to try and have fun and adjust it for his disability.

“It’s going to take time for my body to learn [the routine],” he said at one point in a video blog. “I know it in my brain it’s already there, actually. But I want to change it a little bit obviously because I can’t do all the footwork and spinning and something else and another one. So, I’ll get up tomorrow and work on it.”

Noble said in the video that it has been difficult to deal with not being able to do the things he would have been able to do before his injury.

“I already love myself a lot. My expectations for myself are very high because I have been able to do all these things for years,” he said.

“It’s still adjusting to my new body. Can I do this? Absolutely. I’m going to go for a few hours and kill it. It’s just to get a dose. Will I get that dose in an hour? ? No, but I’ll go and do my best.”

At one point in the video, Noble says he had a “mental breakdown” during his practice for the tests.

“I was struggling a lot,” she said. “I went from being very confident and strong and very assertive with my movements to now just struggling to lift my arms above [the level]. see and strive to be strong by moving and keeping my spirit going with everything. I was crying to myself. My mom and sister about it because it really shakes your confidence.

“I went from one level, to a completely different type. And now I’m compared to people at another level of my level. And it’s confusing because I know I can do it . my brain, I’m still there but physically I’m not. And that sucks.”

Noble said she still loves cheerleading and still wants to do it, but now she has to train “10 times” more than other people.
