The Cooper City Optimist Colts Cheerer Program has built a reputation for excellence over the years. This high level is passed down from seasoned cheerleading teams to younger groups looking to advance to the next level. The goal at the end of the year is to compete in the American Youth Football League Cheer Championship,
Michele Longerbeam wears many caps as Colts Football Commissioner, Colts Support Commissioner and AYFLC Supporting President. She has been involved in programs for 32 years. He oversees five different groups between the ages of 4 and 16. There are 120 members in the Colts cheer program.

Saturday is the day of the Colts soccer teams’ game, and the cheerleading teams come to support the teams and work on their half-time arrangements.
“At the end of the season, all of our cheerleading teams are competing against other cities in AYFLC,” said Longerbeam. “The girls exercise three to four times a week and the training sessions are at least two and a half hours long. Teams do a combination of cheers, dancing, acrobatics, falls and pyramids. “
Teams work on two-and-a-half minute layouts that include all the elements. The Colts cheering program is a stepping stone for cheerleaders looking to join their junior high and high school teams. Some of these cheerleaders won cheer scholarships for college.

“We had a few cheerleaders that made it to college level at Penn State, University of Miami, FIU. The state of Florida and UF, ”said Longerbeam. “They come back for a visit. The highlight was that the girls performed in the Dolphins preseason game during the hiatus. Over 100 children performed. “

The Colts achieved success at the AYFLC end of season competition. After months of practice, teams are judged for their two and a half minute routine. The competition is divided into large, medium and small divisions with numbers ranging from five to 25 cheerleaders.
“We have had great success over the years, taking many first places, and some of them have become Grand Champions in their division,” she said. “This is the Super Bowl of girls. After the girls finish our program, we try to get them back and becoming junior coaches.
The Colts 8U cheerleading team is busy practicing to improve their skills three times a week, as well as performing at halftime and Sunday cheerleading camp in preparation for the final AYFL Super Bowl cheerleading competition.

Last year, the Colts 10U youth cheerleading squad was crowned Grand Champions as well as the Colts 16U senior squad. Another strong cheering program in AYFLC is Coral Springs Chargers, which always participate in the cheering championship.
With 32 under her belt and her two children still participating in the Colts fighting and doping program, Longerbeam remains committed to the Colts CCO. The numbers after COVID have increased by eight fishing teams of 264 players. The members’ residence is the state-of-the-art Flamingo West Park facility, which opened in 2019 in Cooper City.
