Upshur County well represented in MSFF Royalty

ELKINS – The Mountain State Forest Festival (MSFF) has been celebrated annually since 1930, marking this year’s “A Mountain Mosaic” as its 84th year. The performances began on Saturday, October 1 and will be held until Sunday, October 9. The Royal Court of MSFF includes Maids of Honor, Minor Court, Jesters, Trumpeteers, Woodly the Elf and Scouts.

The MSFF saw Caroline Marie Fluke cast as Queen Silvia LXXXIV by Director Robbie Morris. “From the moment I met Caroline, I knew she would represent MSFF with honor and distinction,” said Morris. “Caroline and her family have been very patient and supportive as we worked through the challenges of the pandemic. We are happy that we finally got the events of the game and I am looking forward to a great year. “

MSFF also distributed the following in several newspapers. Fluke is the daughter of Eric and Jennifer Fluke of Buckhannon. He is the grandson of Carol and the late Thomas B. Dunn, of Naples, Florida, and Juanita and the late John Fluke, of Shawnee, Oklahoma. He has one brother, Bryson Fluke.

Fluke graduated in 2019 from Buckhannon-Upshur High School, where he was a four-year member of the Student Council, a four-year class president, an active member of Youth and Government and a member of the Youth Leadership Association. She was a four-year varsity cheerleader and served two years as Varsity Cheerleading Captain.

She was a competitor at the 2019 Skills USA National Competition for Cosmetology and finished in the top 25 nationally. He is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Kelly Lynn Martin Spirit Award, given annually to a high school senior.

Currently, Fluke is enrolled in Laurel College of Technology. In 2021, Fluke earned her Associate’s Degree in Cosmetology and is licensed in W.Va. He is currently continuing his studies in Aesthetics. After graduation she plans to become licensed/certified and further her education to become a Medical Esthetician.

In his spare time, Fluke enjoys spending time with family and friends and during the summer he likes to go to the lake and enjoys wakeboarding. During the winter months, he trades his snowboard for his snowboard and enjoys skiing with his brother and friends. Fluke works in her family’s business, Caroline and Co., a women’s fashion boutique.

“With my family’s ties to the amazing natural resources that West Virginia has to offer, it is such an honor to represent the 84th Mountain State Forest Festival as Maid Silvia” said Fluke.

Mountain State Forest Festival Director Robbie Morris announced that Brianna Nicole Barnette will serve as Maid of Honor at the Royal Court of Maid Silvia LXXXIV Caroline Marie Fluke.

Princess Brianna Nicole Barnette was appointed by Mountain State Forest Festival Director Ben Shaffer. She is the daughter of Jon and Jennie Barnette, of Buckhannon, W.Va. He is the grandson of Darwin Casto and Nancy Casto, of Buckhannon, and Ronnie and RosaLea Barnette, of Weston, W.Va. and great-great-grandson of Kathleen. Casto, of Buckhannon.

Princess Brianna graduated in 2020 from Buckhannon-Upshur High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Youth Government. She was a varsity cheerleader and lettered in cheerleading and participated in the Skills USA National Competition. He was the host St. Joseph Auxiliary Scholarship and Davis & Elkins Highlands Scholarship. In the fall, he will be a junior at Davis & Elkins College, pursuing a BSN in nursing with the goal of working in the workforce and freelancing after graduation.

The director of the Mountain State Forest Festival, Robbie Morris, announced that Brooklyn Dakota Maxwell will serve as Princess at the Royal Court of Maid Silvia LXXXIV Caroline Marie Fluke.

Princess Brooklyn Dakota Maxwell was appointed by Mountain State Forest Festival Director Ben Shaffer. She is the daughter of Joe and Pam Maxwell, of Buckhannon. He is the grandson of Fred and Linda Maxwell, of Parsons, W.Va. and Brian and Theresa Samples of Buckhannon. He has two sisters, Ashton and Kenna, and two brothers, Connor and Rowen.

Princess Brooklyn graduated in 2020 from Buckhannon-Upshur High School, where she was an honor student, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the girls basketball team (four-year letter) and the girls soccer team (three-year letter). He was second team all-district in football, second team all-conference and honorable mention all-state in basketball and team captain and back-to-back state runner ups in Big 10 basketball. In the fall, he will be a junior at Davis & Elkins College, where he is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kapp Delta Pi and was on the President’s List last spring. He is also a member of the Student Education Association.

The Maids of Honor for the 84th MSFF are Hannah Lee Phillips and Sarah Diane Riggleman. The Jury includes Crown Bearer Max Ryan Jones, Scepter Bearer Eleanor Faye Davis, Flower Girls Avery Grace Fox, Baelyn Lee Irons, Addison Grace Smyton and Kendall Brooke Wards, as well as Pallbearers Nicholas “NJ” Patella and Cooper Warner. Jesters are Emily Elizabeth Tesar, Kenadi Sloane Hall Carte, Emma Reese Markley and Ariella Paige Brown. The trumpeters were Ava Marjory Barger, Aidan Matthew Lowther, Samuel ‘Aaron’ Mabry Jr. by Thomas Albert Nixon. Taelynn Harlan is acting as Woodly the Elf and the Scouts are Kayla Virginia Harris, Sarah Ashley Lipscomb, Daniel Webster Hardy III and Kyle Liam Warner.
