Celtics coach Ime Udoka brought the entire basketball world to heel with his latest scandal, but he was hardly the first to find himself in such a scandal.
Throughout the history of the NBA, many players, coaches and team officials have gotten involved in relationships they shouldn’t have — including former Wizards shooting guard Nick Young.

“This happened to me when I was a freshman. Andray Blatche and I were making out with one of the cheerleaders and then they found out. People are blaming us like it was our fault that she got fired or something.”
Young may have cost the young cheerleader her job, but she came out of the whole ordeal unscathed and can now look back and laugh about it. The same cannot be said for Udoka, who may never coach in the NBA again after his affair with Celtics personnel was exposed.
There have been questions about whether Udoka will return to his position at the end of his season-long suspension. Adding more uncertainty to the news is what management said in their official statement:
“The Boston Celtics announced today that the team has suspended head coach Ime Udoka for the 2022-23 season for violations of team policy,” read a statement provided by the team. “A decision on his future with the Celtics beyond this season will be made at a later date. The suspension is effective immediately.”
In the meantime, assistant coach Joe Mazzulla will take over Udoka’s role. He’s considered one of Boston’s best assistants, but he’s never been a coach in the NBA. He previously coached the franchise’s summer league team.
As a man in a position of authority, Udoka should realize that he does not have such a relationship with a woman who works for him. He will find out the hard way what the mistake really was.
In Nick Young’s case, it’s pretty unusual for him to so openly admit to sleeping with a Wizards cheerleader, but he apparently doesn’t seem too concerned about it these days. Live your life and don’t kid others about things they may have done.
