As South Korea celebrated its first large-scale Halloween celebration in two years, tragedy struck around 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 29 when a crowd gathered in a narrow street near the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, a popular hangout for its bars and restaurants.

Among those identified as fatalities in the horrific incident was Kim Yuna, who worked as a cheerleader for the LG Twins and KIA Tigers professional baseball teams. She was 24 years old.

She started as a cheerleader for the LG Twins in 2016 and has been working as a cheerleader for the KIA Tigers since 2018.

Her wake is at Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall, and her funeral will be held on November 1 at Seoul Memorial Park. Netizens expressed their condolences on her Instagram account.

According to Korea’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Security, police are trying to identify the 154 dead through fingerprints and family statements and list them by nationality, address and gender.

Of the 154, the addresses of 124 were confirmed in Korea, except for 25 foreigners and four Koreans. Of all those who died, 98 were women and 56 were men.

A total of 102 of them had addresses in metropolitan areas such as Seoul (60 people) and Gyeonggi (37).

The Korean government declared Yongsan in Seoul a special disaster area following the Itaewon incident.

On October 30, Korean media reported that Lee Jihan, who participated in Season 2 of the survival audition show “Produce 101” in 2017, died in a tragedy in Itaewon. He was 24 years old.

Lee Jihan was a Pan Entertainment trainee when he joined the show that gave birth to the idol group Wanna One. His wake is at Myeongji Hospital Funeral Hall No. 8, and his funeral is on November 1.

Lee Jihan’s agency, 935 Entertainment, confirmed his death.

“It is true that Lee Ji-han died in an accident in Itaewon on October 29. We hoped that this was not true, but when we heard the news, we were very shocked. We are very careful because his family is in a very sad situation. We pray for the repose of the deceased,” the agency said, according to Xports news.

In 2019, Lee Jihan debuted in the web drama “Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day”.
