Scottish mother and daughter both enter the Miss Great Britain competition

Miss Great Britain winner, 29, celebrates alongside her mother, 60, who was runner up in the over 45s category after years of being her daughter’s ‘cheerleader’

A woman crowned Miss Great Britain celebrated alongside her mother, who was one of the top-placed contestants in the Ms Great Britian Classic rounds.

Amy Meisak, 29, from South Lanarkshire, Scotland beat 37 other hopefuls to claim the coveted crown after competing in Leicester at the end of October.

At the same event, her 60-year-old mother, Laurie, finished first runner-up in the Ms Great Britain Classic competition.

Amy encouraged Laurie to enter after her mother spent years accompanying her to parties and being her biggest “cheerleader.”

Amy told a BBC radio host that she believes she stood out because of her women’s support group called Limitless

The mother of four told the BBC that the contestants gave her back her confidence and that she “loves life”.

Laurie, from Hamilton, told BBC Scotland’s Mornings with Kaye Adams that she was hesitant to enter because of her age, saying: ‘She said: ‘You always have a bit of ‘Oh should I or shouldn’t I at my age? ‘ but, you know something, I absolutely love being my age’

Daughter Amy has admitted that the last 12 months have been a ‘challenge’ for her family after she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus and lost her grandfather.

She told the radio host that she believes she stands out from the crowd because she created a women’s empowerment workshop called Limitless.

It seeks to support women by giving them the tools and skills they need to overcome life’s challenges.

Poperty investor’s daughter Amy also told the program that she has participated in pageants for years and her mother has always been a big support.

She said: ‘Mum always came to the games with me and was always my cheerleader.

“She knew all the pageant mothers and she loved the glitz and glamour.

‘I said ‘Mum, you should really think about going into this’ and I think her words were, ‘Well, if you do it, I’ll do it’.’

She told the radio host that she believed she stood out from the crowd because she created a women’s empowerment workshop called Limitless.

The mother and daughter duo say the contestants are not just about superficial qualities.

They said it was a place where women could support each other.

After both of their successes in the competition, Amy and Laurie are not sure if they will return to the pageant world, but both say “never say never”.
