‘Puts things into perspective’: Falcons players clean up Atlanta park at annual Hometown Huddle event

ATLANTA – On Tuesday, the Atlanta Falcons players spent their day off attending the annual Cigna-sponsored Hometown Huddle event at Anderson Park on Atlanta’s Westside.

This is the 15th consecutive year that Falcons players have devoted their time to making a difference in the local communities of the city of Atlanta. On Tuesday morning, Jake Matthews attended his ninth consecutive Hometown Huddle event.

“I think it puts things in perspective a little bit,” Matthews said when asked what he has learned over the years. “Find a bunch of pro athletes, football players and, as people might think ‘hey, you might be too good to do something like that’, but it’s actually nice to come here and see us work and work together. a role in improving an area. You know, it’s a small thing but it adds up and can inspire people. “

The Falcons and Cigna partnered with Park Pride, a nonprofit organization that works with communities across Atlanta to help improve parks, to coordinate a park cleanup project.

Falcons players, subscribers, volunteers, and staff had the opportunity to help paint park benches, garden and collect litter scattered around the park. Quarterback Marcus Mariota reflected on being able to connect with fans and members of the local community while cleaning.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet some of the fans and other people working in the community,” said Mariota, who is attending her first Huddle Hometown, on Tuesday. “For us, it’s really great to create those relationships and to be able to share some stories with each other. It’s great to be a part of them.”

Tight end Kyle Pitts attended his second consecutive Hometown Huddle event with the team and was thrilled to return his time for Anderson Park’s improvement.

“It’s great to come here and repair some of these parks and play our part in the community,” said Pitts. “We can only do it a couple of times a year, so when you get the chance to do it, it’s a great feeling.”
