A school bus accident has left passengers, staff and students injured after the driver lost control while carrying a child.
Fifteen people, including 12 students, were injured in a crash in Texas on Friday.
An Independent School District bus was carrying high school players to a football game when the driver lost control of the vehicle as it went into a corner, KLTV reported.
The bus overturned as it left the road after the driver failed to swerve in the accident.
It then rested in a hole near the church.
They are said to have left Elkhart, Texas for a football game in Clifton, a town two hours away.
There were two faculty members, 12 students and one infant, authorities said.
Elkhart ISD (Independent School District) wrote on Facebook that parents were notified of the accident and others arrived at the scene to pick up students who were not injured.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office reported that six of the bus passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Elkhart Superintendent Dr. Lamont Smith went to the hospital to see those injured in the accident, The Palestine Herald-Press reported.
“When I received a call that some of our students and staff had been involved in an accident, I became concerned about the safety of everyone,” the Superintendent said.
“While I know that others were injured, I am very grateful that there was no loss of life in our school community tonight.”
The school district also confirmed that no one died in the accident and said “we will continue to provide information when it becomes available.”
It was raining at the time of the accident and the officials said that there was standing water on the road as well.
