Goodbye cheerleader? West New York Schools Make a Big Change

A cheerleading squad appears to have been disbanded by a school district in Western New York.

The situation was revealed in the Cheektowaga Central School District. To see also : PHOTO FEATURE – The future looks bright for the West Orange-Stark cheer squad. The coaches of the popular team, Sierra Gray and Kayla Hutcheson, were told by the district that the teams will “no longer be able to cheer for winter sports on Tuesday,” according to WKBW.

As Hutcherson recounted the incident, he confirmed that the Cheektowaga Central School District athletic director did not give a reason for the sudden decision.

The coaching staff was informed of the news, and the captains chose to speak on their websites.

An online petition was created by Julianna Steinberg, and has already gathered close to 2,000 signatures. Some of the people who have signed the petition are Cheektowaga Central senior citizens.

“[The school] has been trying to pull this award since 2017,” wrote Becky, after signing the petition. “STOP FOR THE CHILDREN!”

The Cheektowaga Central School District Superintendent, Scott Zipp, issued a statement about the leaders.

As reported by WKBW, that statement reads:

“The whole purpose of the district is to have a winter season of happiness. The Athletics Director is currently reviewing the program to ensure that we have qualified and experienced referees. many student athletes participate.”

It is not certain how many cheerleaders will be needed on the roster in relation to the entire team, but Coach Hutcheson confirmed to WKBW that 16 girls a the Varsity has 6 players changed.

The Cheektowaga Central cheerleading team has been a national title for cheerleading in recent years. Last April, they claimed second place in the country.
