King Charles finds Queen Camilla ‘a happy leader and’ number two

King Charles is said to have found a “cheerleader” in now-wife Queen Consort Camilla during a time when he was struggling to come to terms with the stardom of his ex-wife Diana before their eventual divorce in 1996, according to a royal expert.

The comments came from author and royal pundit Andrew Morton, who once secretly corresponded with Diana herself for an explosive biography titled Diana: Her True Story in 1992, during a recent conversation with Insider.

According to Morton, Camilla, formerly Parker-Bowles, had known the then-Prince of Wales for most of his life and supported him through his tumultuous marriage to Diana.

The author told Insider: “He (Charles) has known Camilla for most of his life. She has been a constant cheerleader waiting in the wings to console and comfort him…”

He added: “…in the way that he always wanted someone who was a partner, but also who was number two.”

Morton also claimed that, in contrast, Diana’s popularity puzzled Charles, who struggled to come to terms with his stardom and that she ‘outshone’ him.

Morton said: “She (Diana) was the star of the show and he wasn’t. And it was something that was very difficult for him to accept.”
