An inquest has opened into the death of the happy Wigan manager

Lee Midgley’s body was found on November 12 in the house he shared in Salford with his partner Mark Powell.

Coroner Peter Sigee has launched an investigation to examine the circumstances and has updated it to a date to be determined.

Lee grew up in Aspull and Ince, and his father Tony Midgley ran the Maximes nightclub in Wigan and Mr Earl’s Sports and Social Club in Ince.

He was an accomplished dancer and a famous coach of the Wigan Vipers cheerleading squad, where since 2016 he has helped more than 100 children, leading them to victory in multiple competitions.

Coach Dani Hunter said he would be “forever remembered as our dancing queen”.

His partner Mark said he made “people laugh like they’ve never laughed before” but also hoped to raise awareness of mental illness, as Lee had severe ADHD and other mental health issues.
