Jerry Jones comments on the $2.4 million Cowboys cheerleaders

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is responding to news of a $2.4 million settlement paid to four members of the team’s cheerleading squad who accused former team executive Rich Dalrymple of voyeurism, according to documents obtained by ESPN.

“First of all, the cheerleaders are iconic,” Jones told NBC 5 in Dallas-Fort Worth on Friday. “An important part of our organization, the Dallas Cowboys. We take these allegations very seriously. We immediately started looking around, investigating the situation. I can assure you that should we find that necessary, there will be a dismissal or suspension. As it turns out, it’s in our fans’ best interest that what we decided to do was show the cheerleaders how seriously we take these allegations, and we want them to know we do mean it so a resolution is the way to go. ”

Dalrymple, the team’s senior vice president for public relations and communications, retired in February. According to an ESPN story, a cheerleader alleged she saw him standing behind a partial wall in their locker room as the cheerleaders changed, with her iPhone extended. Dalrymple was also accused of taking upskirt photos of Jerry Jones’ daughter, Charlotte Jones Anderson.

Dalrymple denied the allegations in a statement to ESPN.

“People who know me, co-workers, media, colleagues, know who I am and what I’m about,” Dalrymple said. “I understand the very serious nature of these claims and do not take them lightly. However, the accusations were false. One was a coincidence and the other didn’t happen. Everything that has been alleged has been thoroughly investigated years ago, and I am fully cooperating.”

According to ESPN, the Cowboys issued an official Dalrymple warning in October 2015, despite team representatives notifying Worldwide Leaders that no errors had been found.

The settlement reportedly included non-disclosure agreements signed by four women, three of their spouses and Cowboy officials.

“The investigation was handled in accordance with best legal and HR practices and the investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing,” Jim Wilkinson, a communications consultant for the Cowboys, told ESPN. “If any errors are found, Rich will be terminated immediately.”
