Sometimes there’s more to someone than what first meets the eye – at least that’s what Brody King learned when he saw Julia Hart’s transformation from “happy-go-lucky” to taking on a mysterious darkness.
In the new “Sit with Renée Paquette” podcast, King opened up about the unexpected, yet welcoming addition of Hart to The House of Black and whether the group of four is looking to add members.
“I’d say right now we’re very focused: We all want the same thing and we know exactly what situation we want to be in,” King said. “Bringing in Julia was exciting, because obviously a 19-year-old cheerleader doesn’t make sense to be with us, but then she joined the team and she fit right in.”
The only time King and his bandmates Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews knew Hart would be joining the band was when his God’s Hate bandmate Colin Young was asking Hart for some creative direction while working on her debut album. Young wrote Hart’s theme song titled The House of Black.
“When [Young] was doing Julia’s music, he was like, ‘What do you want it to sound like?’ “he remembered. “And Julia just goes, ‘I love Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson,’ and we’re all like, ‘What?!’ There’s a lot more here than we thought.”
King teased that he and his wife have become Hart’s “wrestling” parents and even took her to the mall before this September’s All Out pay-per-view to find their in-ring clothes. At the mall, Hart sits on a hat that looks like the Undertaker. “Now people call her ‘Tiny Taker’ or whatever,” King laughed. “But she has that Stevie Nicks vibe. She’s this sweet charmer and now she’s got the best b**** face in the world.”
