Mt. Vernon Knight Cheerleading Squad Takes Program’s First-Ever Trip to Nationals

The varsity and junior varsity Mount Vernon Knights will be going to nationals for the first time.

The fans thanked their late teammate Kayla Green for placing a pink pom-pom on stage during their big win at regionals. The junior varsity cheer captain was stabbed earlier this year.

Varsity coach Mekiyah Knox estimates it will cost $40,000 to $50,000 for flights, hotels, tournament fees and more.

Fundraising efforts are underway to help the team get to Florida. A GoFundMe has been set up for those who would like to contribute.

The club must raise its competition fees by the end of December in order to be able to go to nationals in February.
