Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas Graduate Takes Over as Coral Springs Charter’s Cheerleading Coach – Parkland Talk

Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate McKenzie Palumbo has officially been named head coach of the Coral Springs Charter cheerleading squad.

A 2012 graduate, Palumbo takes over the reigns as the Panthers’ cheerleading coach after former coach Rachal Garris transferred to Georgia. Palumbo is the second MSD graduate to be hired this year, with Max Boling as the new baseball coach.

“I knew it would be in my best interest to learn as much as I could from her so that I could continue to build this program to the same standard that she worked so hard to establish,” Palumbo said.

When she was five years old, Palumbo started cheerleading and then competed in high school while at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. This is her second year coaching and third year teaching English at CSC.

During the soccer season, Palumbo began coaching the cheerleaders with assistant coaches Ashley Speerin and Jaqueline Tsitkin and said the women on this team are some of the most dedicated, hardworking and talented group she has ever met. .

The team consists of Cameron Broeckelmann, Alana Browne, Juliana Browne, Erika Burst, Jessica Camacho, Lili Conticello, Sydney Manning, Keyran McKenzie, Peyton Moser, Alexis Newland, Kaitlyn O’Neil, Grace Powell, Riley Spran, Kaitlyn Stewart, Izzy Trejo , Riley Whitman, Lindsay Whitman, Addison Whittney and Mikayla Whitney.

The Panthers started the season with a successful UCA Camp, competing in the small mixed division, and have competed in two straight competitions at Coral Glades and MSD, most recently placing third at Bartow’s Chase the State Competition on December 17th. .

The Panthers continue their season after Christmas break with the District Tournament on Jan. 14 at Dillard High School and Regionals on Jan. 21 at Coral Glades.
