The Dallas Mavericks were one of the first teams to completely eliminate their cheerleading squad to introduce a more family-friendly halftime show. However, recent comments from former All-Star Gilbert Arenas may have been a step in the opposite direction for the league.
Cheerleaders in the NBA have been part of the game for more than three decades. However, in recent years, some teams in the NBA are trying to make the entertainment they offer their fans more practical.
Gilbert Arenas give his take on the Miami Heat’s dancers
Former Washington Wizards All-Star Gilbert Arenas recently appeared in an interview on VladTV. To see also : Phyllis Smith, 70, of the US Bureau, was a former NFL cheerleader and burlesque dancer. The host and Arenas spoke on various topics and touched on several relevant things going on in and around the NBA world, and Arenas finally gave his two cents for cheerleading in the NBA.
Agent Zero said, “There are very few teams that have cheerleaders that you want to take seriously. You have Miami, Atlanta. No one calls timeouts in Utah to watch the dancers.” Arenas added, “Miami, you call timeouts just to watch the performance. Like, ‘Oh, everyone, stick together, timeout, let’s check’.”
Fans didn’t agree with Arenas’ comments as a lot has changed over the years. Some criticized the former player for his attitude while others respected his honesty.
