JANUARY 2 COWBOYS-COMMANDERS TIME REVEALED The Dallas Cowboys will play the Washington Commanders at 3:25 p.m. CT Sunday, the NFL announced today.
The Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles (at home against the Giants), and San Francisco 49ers (at home against the Cardinals) will all play their respective games in the same 3:25 slot…so neither team will have a knowledge advantage in regards to his playoff setup.
Here’s the breakdown of Dallas’ scenarios, along with the likelihood of the Cowboys opening the playoffs in Tampa Bay.
Additionally, Sunday Night Football will be between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on NBC.
2 JAN WELCOME BACK! “It might be a little premature and it might be a little optimistic, but the Dallas Cowboys have an injury-related plan for the playoffs.
“We’re welcoming three really good football players,” COO Stephen Jones said in a visit from 105.3 The Fan on Monday, looking back at the postseason. “Leighton Vander Esch, certainly (Johnathan) Hankins, and then if we get (Tyler) Biadasz back … that will be a huge asset to our group.”
Linebacker Vander Esch (neck/shoulder will be absent this week in Washington. Veteran Hankins has a pectoral injury. And starting center Biadasz has a high ankle sprain, with the Cowboys crossing their fingers as they shuffle the O line for a another week.
Jones said about Biadasz: “I think after spending a full week with him and seeing how he’s responding to treatment… Let’s just see what the week brings, but we certainly feel it’s a realistic possibility (the medical staff) could get him ready to play the first round of the playoffs”.
28 TELL ME TOO! Dez Bryant has transitioned from football, to being a family man and businessman, and hasn’t played in the NFL as of 2020.
But he sure is having some fun with the idea of another great “retired” Dallas Cowboys looking to make a comeback.
According to the CowboysSI.com scoop, Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, 49, called Jerry Jones’ office, requesting an audition.
“If TO comes back… sign me up for a playoff team… seriously! LFG,” Bryant tweeted.
Bryant, 34, was a Pro Bowl force with 7,459 receiving yards and 73 touchdowns in eight seasons with the Cowboys. Like Owens, he keeps himself in great shape and… Well, those are fun ideas… but they’re not the Cowboys’ ideas, if you know what we mean.

DEC 20 DALLAS AT DALLAS The Eagles announced Tuesday that Dallas Goedert was activated from IR. … Just in time to play against its hated namesake, the Dallas Cowboys.
Goedert is out of Week 10 with a shoulder injury, but comes back on board for a 13-1 Eagles with his 544 yards and three touchdowns on 43 catches in nine games, a top-notch complement to receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Philly will likely be without QB Jalen Hurts (shoulder) for Saturday’s game at 10-4 Dallas.
DEC 18 KELVIN ON THE BENCH The Cowboys suddenly have defensive problems.
First, they pulled starting corner Kelvin Joseph after giving up two consecutive touchdown catches allowed. …then Nahshon Wright came into play.
Meanwhile, security Donovan Wilson is injured, as is Leighton Vander Esch.

DEC 18 COACH TO HOSPITAL Falcons defensive coordinator Dean Pees, 73, was carried off the field in New Orleans during pre-game warmups today after a Saints player accidentally collided with him.
The Falcons say Pees – who was grounded for quite some time after the collision – is “alert and responsive” as he is transported to a local hospital for medical tests.
DEC 14 ‘STAND BY’ Jerry Jones wants it.
The Cowboys owner was asked by the DFW media late Wednesday afternoon about the ideal schedule for signing Odell Beckham Jr.
“Sooner rather than later,” he said.
“I don’t want to talk about it, but hang in there,” Jones said. But hang on. Break time.”
Jones, even though the Cowboys just signed another veteran in T.Y. Hilton, was asked on Tuesday by 105.3 The Fan if OBJ’s inability to play today (because of his supposedly “time bomb” knee) rules out a deal.
“I wouldn’t get that far if you include the playoffs,” Jones said. “We wouldn’t have been interested in Odell if he didn’t have the talent. I think it’s fair to say he’s an outstanding receiver…as you well know, he’s not ready to play. He’s a receiver that I think would fit at any time. There’s going to be a continued interest in Odell”.

DEC 14 OBJ PATIENT? Odell Beckham Jr. is a “free agent award”…for Spring 2023.
The Dallas Cowboys still have plans to sign OBJ now, with the hopes that he can contribute to the NFL playoffs – and perhaps with a contract offer that would ensure his services in future years as well, especially as his “time bomb.” “. knee is well in its past.
Indeed, it appears that the Cowboys and Beckham’s camp talked on Monday about the parameters of a contract in Dallas. Playing everywhere this season is getting smaller.

DEC 13 BEAS TO BILLS Could the Buffalo Bills be about to host another wide receiver meeting? A pair of well-liked tweets and reported airport sightings have sparked rumors around the internet about former Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley making his comeback to Orchard Park.
And now it’s on, NFL Network reports that Beasley is signing with Buffalo.
WIVB-TV reported on Twitter Monday night that Beasley is back in Buffalo, with their reporter quoting a liked tweet from Beasley, which claims Beasley was on a flight from Baltimore to Buffalo.
Beasley, 33, a Little Elm native, entered the NFL from SMU with the Cowboys before moving to Buffalo. He retired from the NFL just two games into his stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in early October.

Most annoyingly: Starting right tackle Terence Steele left the game with a knee injury that caused the Cowboys to say they were “very concerned,” with an MRI forthcoming.
Additionally, defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins suffered a shoulder injury and tight end Jake Ferguson suffered a head and neck injury.
Steele’s injury is the most problematic, as the Cowboys first replaced him with youngster Josh Ball but then turned to vet Jason Peters for the right tackle.
Next week in Jacksonville, Peters could be the right tackle with Tyron Smith returning to claim the left tackle job.
Additionally, Trevon Diggs briefly left with a thumb injury — and is now saying he’s playing with injuries to both thumbs. And Dorance Armstrong wears a protective boot after spraining his ankle.
DEC 11 COWBOYS OPEN HOT A combination of the offensive line bullying the Texans and Tony Pollard’s skills perfectly suited to a fun Cowboys game design led to a quick Dallas restart on the Texans.
Pollard scored from 11 yards out to cap a season-opening 76-yard TD drive in Week 14 here at AT&T Stadium.
10 DEC. FINES Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott were each fined $13,261 for celebrating touchdowns using the Salvation Army Red Kettle against the Colts.

9 SAY WHAT THE HELL? Sean McVay is a sharp guy. But not even the Los Angeles Rams coach could figure out what he had just overseen.
The coach seemed confused by the result, a 17-16 victory over Las Vegas Thursday night that featured all sorts of craziness, capped off by Ram-for-a-day (or so) QB Baker Mayfield running a length of the – field TD drive with 1:45 to play.
“Just how we drew it,” McVay said, adding, “I’m still like, ‘What the hell is going on now?”
“I don’t know if you could write any better than that,” said Mayfield, waived by Carolina just days ago and then inserted into the “Thursday Night Football” game (with an injured Matthew Stafford) just a few plays into. “It’s a damn good story, I’ll be honest with you.”

Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks — a Cowboys trade target before this year’s deadline — has a calf injury and is now expected to miss his second straight game. … this Sunday at noon in Dallas.

Houston is 1-10-1 and already outgunned against 9-3 Dallas.
DEC 7 VON OUT FOR THE YEAR Buffalo Bills passing star Von Miller, who had harbored hopes of returning to action in the coming weeks, instead underwent surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and now he finished for the season.
The announcement was made Wednesday at team headquarters by head coach Sean McDermott.
Miller, a DFW native and an offseason target for the Cowboys before signing with Buffalo, has a long-term contract with the Bills… and will definitely be in the news for a while as he is a key figure in Buffalo’s recruiting for injured receiver Odell Beckham Jr., with the Dallas Cowboys a rival there.
DEC 5 TEXAS RIVALS?! No, Week 14 does not pit a pair of “rivals” against each other in the Houston Texans playing the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Sunday at noon.
Cities “love to hate each other”. But the teams and their fans? Cowboys Nation doesn’t care much about Texans…and neither do Texan fans right now.
The Texans just lost to the Cleveland Browns, 27-14, and Deshaun Watson’s controversial return to Houston didn’t matter to the crowd either.
The Texans have a 1-10-1 record.
The Cowboys – following a 54-19 win over Indy – are playing Sunday Night Football as they look to improve on their 9-3 record and keep pace with the Eagles. Dallas has won two straight and four of its last five and some oddsmakers have put the Cowboys as a huge 17-point favorite in this one.

DEC 4 TWO NEW LOOKS The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders will reveal a new look for their iconic boots with a red, white and blue accent Sunday night as part of the team’s “Salute to Service” weekend… which you can read more about here while Dallas will take on Indianapolis here at AT&T Stadium.
But beyond that, Christmas is coming and the Cowboys will be hosting the Eagles on Christmas Eve…

DEC 3: DEION’S DECISION Deion Sanders has officially announced that he will be the next head coach of Colorado.
Sanders went 27-5 in three seasons in Jackson St. and got some of the best recruits in the nation.
The announcement came moments after Sanders led Jackson State to its second consecutive SWAC title.
Jackson State defeated Southern 43-24 in the title game, capping off the school’s first undefeated season.
“There were a number of highly skilled and impressive candidates interested in being the next head football coach in Colorado, but none of them had the pedigree, knowledge, or ability to connect with student-athletes like Deion Sanders.” Colorado’s athletic director said. Rick George said in the statement. “Not only will Coach Prime excite our fans, but I am confident he will restore our program to national prominence by leading a team of high quality and character.”
Sanders, 55, played 14 seasons in the NFL, five of which he spent with the Cowboys. During his time in Dallas, he compiled 159 tackles, 14 interceptions and two touchdowns. Sanders was a member of the Cowboys’ 1995 championship team that defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 in Super Bowl XXX. He was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football of Fame in 2011.
It has already begun recruiting staff and players in Colorado.
DECEMBER 2 ANTONIO BROWN TROUBLE Antonio Brown occasionally proposes the idea of a return to the NFL, sometimes suggesting the Dallas Cowboys as his employer.
Not gonna happen. Instead, Brown has problems in real life as he is once again facing legal action in the wake of a recent alleged domestic incident that resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for the former NFL champion.
Brown, 34, is reportedly wanted by police for a battery charge stemming from a weekday incident involving the mother of four of Brown’s six children at her south Tampa home.
Thursday night, NBC News reported that Tampa police are still trying to arrest Brown after making multiple attempts outside the home. The department told NBC that Brown is “not communicating with police officers.”
WFTS-TV in Tampa reported that officers were at Brown’s home for more than an hour and used a megaphone to call him from his front door. A Tampa police statement indicates that Brown and a woman were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical earlier this week, with Brown allegedly stating that “if she entered the house, he would have shot her in front of the police.” , according to court documents.
1 DEC BYE, OBJ It is already known that the Los Angeles Rams were not in the game regarding the renewal of Odell Beckham Jr. But now there is physical evidence…
The Associated Press reveals that the former locker at team headquarters that was used and for which the free-agent wide receiver was saved…is gone.
“The locker that has had Odell Beckham Jr’s name on it in the Rams practice complex from last season is now empty again,” Beacham said. “They’re no longer saving OBJ’s place.”
OBJ, starting today, will be doing a tour of the suitors with a Thursday visit with the Giants, a Friday visit with the Bills, and a Monday visit with the Cowboys on tap.
NOVEMBER 29 NOW, OBJ! Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan is making the team’s pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr almost urgent.
“This year has to be a big part,” Jones said. “We’ve got six regular season games and the playoffs, so in my mind, we’ve got pretty much the entire show ahead of us. We’ve got to have a situation where he can really contribute now.”
Now, let’s make sure we’re interpreting this correctly: Part of what Jones seems to be saying is that Dallas “needs” a healthy OBJ…and given that he’s spent nearly a year rehabbing his knee, there are lingering questions.
But if those questions are answered around next Monday when Beckham visits The Star?
Jones also indicated that OBJ’s plane crash has no impact on the team’s “full steam ahead” (head coach Mike McCarthy’s words) interest in the star catcher.
“Very genuine,” Jones said of his telephone visit with Beckham. “Very competitive. He feels confident. He feels good about himself. We think he can suit us very well.”
Jones also said of the airport incident: “His judgment, his behavior is not an issue for him. It is for many. It is not for him.”
So… if he passes the medical and the other hurdles (money, other bidders) are addressed?
“We have to have this year,” Jones said. “It’s very important. This year has to be a big part of that.”

NOV 25 OBJ SET MATCHES The Dallas Cowboys have made their way into the headlines regarding free agent catcher Odell Beckham Jr. thanks to his scheduled visit with them. Well, and with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealing he had a “good visit” Thanksgiving over the phone with OBJ.
But there are even more teams on Beckham’s roster, ready to start making his free agent visits. … And yes, the Cowboys have company.
That’s word via CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson, who reported Friday that Beckham has solidified plans to visit three suitors…and to do it in that order…
We understand that the visit to Dallas is scheduled for Monday, December 5th. So the Giants and Bills sessions appear to be just around the corner.
Anderson also reports that Beckham, who has rehabilitated a knee injury, is also having conversations with the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. It is also believed that the San Francisco 49ers could be in contention for the services of the two-time All-Pro wide receiver, who is looking for a long-term “home” (and contract), with speculation that he could be called for $20 million APY extension.
The Bills’ recruitment of OBJ was decided by Von Miller, his Rams Super Bowl teammate, with Miller now in the news as he deals with his own knee injury sustained in the Thanksgiving win in Detroit.
NOV 24 OBJ MAKES THE COWBOY APPOINTMENT It’s a date!
Both the Cowboys and Giants will host a visit with Odell Beckham Jr., but we already knew that. Now comes an advance of the ball: Beckham will visit the Cowboys on Monday, December 5, according to Jay Glazer.
The Giants have yet to make a date, it seems, but they’re on Beckham’s wish list. The Bills, Niners, and Chiefs could also figure here…although those organizations haven’t been as vocal about it as Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones and his franchise have been.
Beckham is allegedly in good health following knee rehab and is reportedly seeking a long-term deal at around $20 million APY, all part of his search for, as he puts it, a “home.”
And in DFW? The search for housing began on December 5th.
NOV 23 TP WINS AWARD This is indisputable: Tony Pollard has become perhaps the scariest weapon in the Cowboys offense, and this week he was recognized for it. He was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his outstanding contributions to Dallas’ 40-3 win at Minnesota.
TP numbers? He had 189 scrimmage yards on Sunday (109 receiving, 80 rushing) and two touchdowns.
Our friend at PFF, Marcus Mosher, writes: “Tony Pollard’s breakout season is upon us. This has suddenly transformed Dallas into one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL, one that feeds off a player who is arguably the best in the championship right now.”
Over the past four games, the Cowboys have scored 141 points per game and are averaging 412.8 yards of offense. It’s better than where they were a year ago when they were the No. 1 offense in the NFL.
This has something to do with the return of Dak Prescott, of course. But as the Cowboys prepare to host the Giants on Thanksgiving in a 7-3 NFC East two-team battle? Yes, it has a lot to do with Tony Pollard as well.
NOVEMBER 22 BRADY IN TEXAS TROUBLE? The Texas State Securities Board has reportedly advanced its investigation into the operations and failure of cryptocurrency platform FTX to now include the activities of celebrities like the NFL’s Tom Brady and the NBA’s Stephen Curry.
Bloomberg News first reported the latest of the investigation, which is looking into possible violations of the securities law.
“Anyone providing investment advice in Texas typically must be registered and typically must truthfully disclose all known material facts,” the Texas State Securities Board said via The Texas Tribune. “In Texas, there is no different justice system or regulation for people who are celebrities.”
This comes on the heels of news of a class-action lawsuit filed naming Curry and Brady and other celebrities and alleging that they, among others, “controlled, promoted, assisted and actively participated” in the alleged scheme in which they were “aggressively marketed” FTX – which the filing describes as “truly a house of cards” and “a Ponzi scheme”.
NOVEMBER 21 RUSSELL WILSON ANOTHER HERSCHEL After all the dust had settled and after all the onion skins had been peeled off, the NFL world came to a universal agreement: there would never again be another exchange like the deal Herschel Walker, so skillfully created by the Cowboys that he became the foundation of a three-time Super Bowl champion.

Walker’s 1989 trade – seen as the biggest steal in football history – netted the Cowboys and Vikings multiple premium round picks for the star running back. Among the players drafted with picks acquired by Minnesota: Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Darren Woodson and Kevin Smith.

But NFL Network is hinting at a new wrinkle for Week 11, the notion that Zeke – “light years ahead” of where he was after missing two games with a sprained knee – will be “lightened up” in the lineup, with Pollard” to get more touches,” it seems, compared to the knee-braced Elliott.
Our kind suggestion: the script of the game, at least as much as any pre-game concept, will be the determining factor in who does what.
NOVEMBER 18 TANK INJURY ISSUES Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said Friday morning that DeMarcus Lawrence (feet, knee) will be limited in his work today here at the Star.
But, he added, “I have every intention of having him play” in Sunday’s game against the Vikings.
Lawrence, who has a history of playing through serious injuries, is really ready to do it again.
“The right knee hurts more than the feet,” he said. “I’m dealing with so many things right now. I’m just trying to stay focused on the task at hand.”
But…do you play on Sunday?
Ezekiel Elliott (knee) and Anthony Barr are also on track to return to action this weekend.

NOVEMBER 17 NEW GUYS AT THE WORK The Cowboys added two “name” players to their roster via the practice squad, and Thursday the new guys — defensive end Takk McKinley and wide receiver Antonio Callaway — took the field here at the Star .
Callaway, the former Browns starter, wears number 14.
Takk, the former first-round starter with the Falcons, is No. 59.
NOV 16 Chicago Wants Taco The Chicago Bears have signed Taco Charlton from the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.
The former Cowboy, a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft taken by Dallas, played two seasons before being cut. Charlton’s time with the Cowboys was a disappointment, collecting just four sacks in 27 games.
His new deal with the Bears now reunites him with current head coach Matt Eberflus, the former Cowboys linebackers coach when Charlton was drafted.
16 NOV TAKK IN The Dallas Cowboys made another move. The Cowboys signed defensive end Takk McKinley to their practice squad after hosting him for a practice over the summer.
McKinley is a former first-round draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons under then-head coach Dan Quinn. McKinley played four seasons in Atlanta before playing his last two with the Browns and Rams.
This move comes on the heels of Tuesday’s signing of another “name” player seeking a restart as former Browns starter Antonio Callaway has joined the club via the practice squad.
CENTER TRIALS NOVEMBER 15 The Cowboys have moved UDFA rookie center Alex Lindstrom to the IR (training squad) and now they need help there, a source tells CowboysSI.com, with a trio of prospects now they’re auditioning here within The Star.
Beau Benzschawel played for Wisconsin and was waived in 2019.
Brock Hoffman is a UDFA rookie from Virginia Tech.
Michal Menet was drafted by Arizona in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft from Penn State.
Dallas’ starting center continues to be Tyler Biadasz and Lindstrom served as a backup.
NOVEMBER 15 RAMS ROCK-BOTTOM The Los Angeles Rams will be without their best offensive weapon for at least four weeks after designating star receiver Cooper Kupp to injured reserve, Rams Sean McVay announced.
Kupp was injured Sunday in the Rams’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers after a sprained ankle late in the game.
Kupp will miss at least four weeks and undergo tightrope surgery to repair the injury. Recovery from tightrope surgery is typically five to six weeks, according to reports.
McVay did not shut Kupp out for the season.
Kupp is the Rams’ overwhelming leader in most receiving statistics, and currently ranks second in the NFL in receptions (75), fifth in targets (98), fifth in yards (812), and fifth in touchdowns (6).

NOVEMBER 13 DALLAS DRAWS 7-ALL Cowboys at Packers was mostly about Dallas’ ability to get close to the goal line… but also only score once in the first quarter and a half.
CeeDee Lamb got a TD catch by QB Dak Prescott as the receiver came swinging out of the backfield … but with a change up to Dallas making it 14-0, Prescott threw an interception in the end zone.
And with 4:54 left in the first half at Lambeau Field, Aaron Rodgers answered with a deep TD pass to rookie Christian Watson, tying the score at 7 all.
NOV 12 COWBOY AND TILLERY? The Los Angeles Chargers are giving up former first-round defensive tackle Jerry Tillery – and the Dallas Cowboys, always looking to bolster a good defense (albeit with some run-stopping challenges as they prepare for Sunday in Green Bay) would like a piece of the action.
But there is a problem: the problem of being too good.
The 6-6, 295-pound Tillery has fallen out of favor with the Chargers’ coaching staff this year as he recorded just eight tackles before being waived on Friday. So the 2019 NFL Draft first-round pick will have a fresh start somewhere…
But the way the waiver order works, the worst teams get the first few requests. And Dallas – with his 6-2 record – will go deep teams with one shot against him.
That process can begin early next week, and teams like the Texans with a win look like the most logical incoming winners here.
Taken 28th overall in 2019, Tillery, 26, was in his fourth season with the Chargers after starting 29 of 54 games played, with 106 tackles and 10.5 sacks.

NOV 1 RIDLEY SUSPENDED… TRADE?! The Bizarre Story of Calvin Ridley just keeps getting a little more bizarre.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who badly needed to make a difference, were exploring the idea of trading for unhappy Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley about a year ago.
But some problems got in the way.
First, the talented receiver left Atlanta citing mental health reasons; apparently he was considering retirement.
Then, the Falcons engineered a trade of him to the Eagles, but voluntarily backed out of the deal because the Falcons knew Ridley was about to get a one-year suspension for betting on NFL games.
The Falcons did it in good faith. And now they do something else: He’s been traded to the long-interested Jags in what NFL Network calls a “complicated” deal that could ultimately land second- and fifth-round picks in Atlanta.
DEAL WR NOV 1 Put it in the category of “Do something” moves that really don’t make much sense or, at least, wouldn’t have made sense for Dallas.
The Bears just traded a second-round pick for a receiver in Chase Claypool who has mediocre production (including just one TD catch this year and zero catches on two targets for the Steelers last week) but who was some level on Dallas’ radar…
Hand. Not for a second choice. …which may end up being too expensive for Dallas to consider in discussions with Brandin Cooks, a much more seasoned pro than Claypool.

NOV 1 DE COST The Cowboys continue to be linked in pass-rush trade rumors (see Bradley Chubb) … not that we fully understand the rationale.
But just in case, it is instructive to know the price.
We know because the Los Angeles Rams offer for Panthers edge Brian Burns is, via. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, consisting of two first-round picks.
It seems likely that the Panthers rejected the Rams’ offer of those two first rounds because they would come in 2024 and 2025; that’s all the Rams have.
But it could also indicate how much Carolina really doesn’t want to lose her main sack artist.
And it might suggest how unlikely Dallas is going down this path.
JOKER NOV 1 Kareem Hunt had just participated in Cleveland’s 32-13 victory over Cincinnati on “Monday Night Football” and it was Halloween. So it made perfect sense that he would celebrate his own way.
“I mean, I’m up for anything, man,” Hunt said, per NFL.com. “I’m a football player and this is a business. So I’m ready to do whatever they decide with me.”
“He’s either going somewhere else or here, whatever doesn’t matter. I love the game of football,” said Hunt, who must also love being “The Joker” on Halloween, as he conducted his post-match interview in his ” Mask related to Batman.
31 OCT HUNT NFC EAST? The Philadelphia Eagles, according to a volume of rumors, are interested in Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt. It has been suggested that the Browns would move the former NFL rushing champion and their backup runner for possibly just a fourth-round pick, and that Hunt would serve Philly as a backup to Miles Sanders.
NFL insider Jay Glazer noted that he could see the Eagles being traded for a running back, which adds credibility, if not logic, to the rumor. Assuming part of the reason for Hunt’s unhappiness in Cleveland is that he’s the caddy who booted Nick Chubb… why would he be happy as Sanders’ backup?
Say this about Philly, though: At 7-0, the roster that has been built is the product of many, many right moves.
OCTOBER 31 ROQUAN ‘EMBARMED’ CHANGED The Chicago Bears suffered a 49-29 defeat by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, something linebacker Roquan Smith found “embarrassing.”
And now Smith is being traded to the Baltimore Ravens. …and in doing so leaps from a 3-5 NFC underdog to a 5-3 AFC winner.
The Bears reportedly get a second and fifth round as the Ravens will work on a long-term extension for the young talent.
OCT 31 BRANDIN COOKS LINKS In our two recent conversations with Texan sources, the organization continues to play down the idea of bankruptcy trustee Brandin Cooks.
And there are prohibitive reasons for his transfer, as 1) we believe Houston would ask for a second-round pick in return and 2) he has a price tag of $18 million locked in for 2023.
But would it help Dallas or another contending team? Without a doubt, the take-the-top-off vet was successful in Houston (in seven starts this year the 29-year-old has 32 catches for 354 yards and a touchdown) despite shaky QB play.
He’s a perennial 1,000-yard boy and his name has now appeared in two media spots, in Dallas and in New York. Are the Cowboys really that interested in spending what it takes here?
31 OCT STEPHEN JONES OBJ TIPS? Despite Jerry Jones’ “itchy” and “risk-ridden” mentality, COO Stephen Jones said the Cowboys are “comfortable” in the distance.
But then Stephen added, “And then there’s some guys that don’t belong to anyone that are out there.”

31 OCT DANCING TOWARDS AGREEMENT DEADLINE? The Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the NFL face a Tuesday afternoon trade deadline…and CowboysSI.com’s face-off with Jerry Jones has our own Mike Fisher believing that Jerry has “The Itch.”
Fish writes: “Jerry Jones has ‘the itch.’
“My 32 years of reporting on the Jones era in Dallas has no guarantees of what the Cowboys will do between now and Tuesday’s deadline. The ‘who’? The ‘what’? The openly discussed wide receiver”?
“Those dances can’t be danced alone; Jerry – and Stephen Jones and Will McClay, most directly involved – need willing partners.
“But this I can say, after a couple of postgame media sessions and then a gleeful elevator ride on the way to Jones’ AT&T Stadium suite:
“Jerry Jones wants there to be an opportunity where he can use his faith in his ‘tact, courage, instincts and willingness to go out there and take that risk.”
OCT 31 NAMES NAMES IN NEW ENGLAND Among the numerous reports that the Patriots have called numerous players onto the field, names such as right tackle Isaiah Wynn, running back Damien Harris and safety Jabril Peppers have been cited among the latest rumors surrounding the Patriots. It was also reported that New England had recently received inquiries about all Pats veterans, including Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker, Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne.
OCTOBER 31: 10 NAMES Sunday was a big launch day for rumors, with the Buffalo Bills a lot in the news. The Buffalo News has created a top 10 list, and here are our answers related to the Bills and beyond…
1) Rams running back Cam Akers. Sources in Los Angeles told us the two sides are “done” with each other. Problem: Akers doesn’t seem to be running with much “juice,” making him less of a threat than the top two fullbacks on Buffalo’s roster.
2) Brandin Cooks Texan receiver. Cooks is a top-down taker, but the Texans, according to a source, would only listen if a second-round pick was offered. That, and Cooks’ 2023 salary of $18 million, make him a non-starter.
3) Panthers guard Austin Corbett. He has a connection to the Bills’ coaching staff and the Panthers are in fire-sale mode. (Even though they insist they aren’t.)
4) Panthers offensive lineman Cam Erving. Erving is a former cowboy and is, respectfully, just a boy.
5) The safety of Lions DeShon Elliott. Based on his time with the Lions — with a defense that seems to be giving up 35 points in the blink of an eye — this isn’t very appealing.
6) Commanders running back Antonio Gibson. The Washington front office said it denied wanting to deal with Gibson. (We’d also put Cleveland’s Kareem Hunt in this category, at least as a name to explore.)
7) Falcons center Matt Hennessy. A piece of depth for the Bills? Safe. But keep in mind that going into Week 8, the Falcons – rather surprisingly – are tied for #1 in the NFC South… which means they have no reason to be sellers.
8) Broncos catcher Jerry Jeudy. A 2020 first-round pick, Jeudy would probably like to get out of the Denver mess. The Broncos, however, would do well to ask an exorbitant trade price here.
There’s Cowboys gossip here, but more smoke than fire.
By the way, and this goes for Cooks as well as Chase Claypool of the Steelers and maybe even free agent Odell Beckham Jr.: we wonder if the Bills front office is so obsessed with adding Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis as the audience and obviously?
9) Bears Running Back David Montgomery. He’s in the last year of his rookie contract, so this would be a rental. Do the Bills need to add a “power back”? And if so, don’t they already have one in the mothballed Zack Moss?
10) 49ers safety Tarvarius Moore. The 49ers see themselves as contenders, not “sellers,” as evidenced by their willingness to pay a price for Christian McCaffrey that the Bills wouldn’t pay.
OCTOBER 30 AIKMAN NEEDED A Dallas Cowboys “family” member is trying to help with an opinion – and his name happens to be “Troy Aikman.”
“You better have some offense in the NFL today if you’re going to win games,” Aikman told TMZ when asked if his old team should look to add a wide receiver. “The way you’re offended is you have weapons and you must have more than one or two.”
Does Aikman’s contemporary Michael Irvin have an idea for another idea, the signing of rehabilitation free agent Odell Beckham Jr.?
Looks like he’s Irvin’s singled out man. Aikman has no name; he just has an educated opinion. A receiver swap, Aikman said, “would help them for sure.”
Worth noting: Aikman made these comments about Dallas “needing some offense” before the Cowboys beat the Bears 49-29 to move to 6-2 in the bye.
26 OCT ONE-UPPED? We have to mention that Dallas’ deal for Johnathan Hankins actually preceded the Eagles’ trade for Robert Quinn. So no, Dallas didn’t “respond” to the “arms race” there. But that doesn’t mean some aren’t calling for another answer, especially as rumors surface that Philly may be chasing Saints superstar running back Alvin Kamara.
