Half of the UGA Redcoat Marching Band may have believed they were boarding a plane with NFL coaching legend Bill Belichick.
That’s because one of the two Eastern Airline jets the band flew to Los Angeles Saturday for the Georgia national football championship game was a spare plane the Patriots sold to the airline in 2020.
Eastern Airlines never unwrapped the Patriots logos from the plane, a Redcoat Band spokesman said. The other half of the Redcoats flew on an Eastern Airline jet that was unwrapped. UGA cheerleaders joined the Redcoats on the planes.
About 460 Redcoat members and staff left the UGA campus on eight buses Saturday morning, bound for Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, WSB-TV reported.

The Redcoat Band was founded in 1905 and “has since become the creator and guardian of the university’s most beloved traditions, while proudly representing the institution in thousands of performances.”
