North Carolina Sheriff: Cheerleader fight leads to school resource officer being stabbed

PLYMOUTH, N.C. – A North Carolina sheriff’s office is investigating after a brawl with cheerleaders led to a school resource officer being stabbed.

Washington County Sheriff Johnny Barnes said it happened at a basketball game Friday night at Washington County High School.

Barnes said there were at least two fights between the Washington County cheerleaders during the game, and family members later got involved.

A school resource officer was stabbed below the lip with what was believed to be a pen, according to the sheriff. The officer received stitches at the hospital for the wound.

No charges had been filed Sunday, but the incident remains under investigation.
