The Trinity Lutheran High School cheerleading team hosted a TLHS Spirit Day at the Bollinger Athletic Complex last Saturday.

All around Lutheran elementary schools participated in the event, which started with a morning clinic from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

At the clinic, the teams practiced equipment to perform at the Trinity Lutheran Boys Basketball home game against Henryville on Saturday night.

Also in the morning clinic there was bumbling, jumping competition and tumbling. The jumping competition was won by Daphne May, who hails from St. Peter’s Columbus.

Later that night, during the basketball game, all teams were allowed to perform a band dance, floor cheer, starting lineup, and halftime dance. All Cougar and Hornet fans in attendance were shown the future of Trinity during the game.

Andrea Foster, head coach of the Trinity Lutheran High School cheerleading team, thought Saturday’s clinic was a great experience to promote courage and grow the Cougars program.

“It was fun to watch the future generation of Trinity cheerleaders perform in their first high school basketball game,” she said.

Foster and the Trinity cheer team typically host summer camp every year, and given the success of the clinic last weekend, Foster expects the Cougars to continue to do so.

“After the performance, girls walked off the floor with the biggest smiles on their faces and said how much fun it was to perform in front of such a large audience,” said Foster. “We look forward to hosting the clinic for years to come.”

You can see the Trinity Lutheran High School cheerleading squad at most of the Cougars’ home games for the remainder of the season.
