Cheer Leader won the Queen’s Best Cup at KRC

KARACHI: Cheer Leader, a public fancy filly, opened her new year account by bettering another filly Princess Sadia by three and a half lengths to lift the Queen’s Best Cup at the Gymkhana race meeting here at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

The reigning champion, rider Adnan Khan, received serious injuries after falling from his mount Time Game at a turn in the cup race and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a late burst, Cheer Leader came from behind to compel punters and live up to his billing on a day when four favorites were biting the dust in a seven-race card. He cruised home in one minute and ten seconds in the five and a half game race with street rider Zaki Zakir.

Filly Silent Response had to be content with third place five lengths behind while the chestnut filly Hessa completed the frame another six lengths away.

The winning filly was sent from the stables of Syed Sibghatullah Shah Pir Pagara by trainer Mohyuddin.

Earlier, another chestnut favorite Arsalan Choice galloped to a four-length victory over stable bay horse Deewana in the second race. He clocked 0.524/5 seconds for four furlongs under rider M. Asim.

Both horses were followed by mares Star Queen and Bangash Queen respectively among five recipients.

Mare Heer edged out the joint dark bay horse Night Vision to win the sixth race, the auxiliary event of the day commanded by a combined I and II scale. He posted one minute and a second for five breaks with rider Sohail Ahmed in the saddle.

Zaheer’s bay horses Choice and Robert took third and fourth place aboard among half a dozen competitors.

Heer’s win enabled Mohyuddin to finish the day with a double.

Re-betting was seen in the first and third races after horses were scratched at the starting gate due to injuries.

The day began with Supreme Leader creating quite a stir by besting the mare Soldier Girl to take honors in the opening race with favorite chestnut Rich Striker taking fourth place behind the horse Faisal Crown bay.

He was home in 0.532/5 seconds in a four-furlong race.

Filly Croissant stunned fellow filly Flaming Ember by a length-and-a-quarter to add the third race clocking 0.582/5 seconds for four-and-a-half lengths.

Bay horse Faisal King was third while chestnut horse Faster Than You completed the quartet as the field was reduced to seven after Fire Work, Raging Comet and Achilles were scratched from the race.

The dark bay horse Wind Talker upset the odds and forced a quarter-length victory over favorite mare Angel Love to return to victory in the fourth race.

He was piloted home by Adnan in 0.581/5 seconds denying Angel Love to complete a hat-trick.

Mare Sherzadi and the bay horse My Boy took third and fourth place respectively.

Outside bay horse Cracks Man, who did not finish anywhere in his last run, cruised to a two-length victory over colt Geo Baba to collect the spoils in the fifth race in one minute and four seconds.
