Saturday’s NFL playoffs kicked off with a pair of comeback results.
After the San Francisco 49ers came back from trailing at halftime to win by three scores (41-23 over Seattle), the Jacksonville Jaguars managed a 27-point comeback (the third largest in NFL history) to beat the Los Angeles Chargers at home.
The weak start came in the first half thanks to five Jaguars turnovers … including four Trevor Lawrence interceptions. But … the Chargers found a way to blow their four-touchdown start to lose 31-30 in Jacksonville.
Lawrence came back by throwing three touchdown passes in the second half to get Jacksonville back on track.
See the information? Yes, this is the same Jags group that trailed Dallas by 17 points late in the regular season before storming back for a 40-34 OT win.
And of course the 49ers are the same bunch that beat Dallas last year in the first round of the playoffs.
The 49ers will host the top remaining NFC playoff team, while the Jaguars await their opponent based on Sunday’s results. And the Cowboys play Monday night, certainly hoping for a less dramatic Tampa Bay win.
January 14 COWBOYS LEAD NFL “America’s Team” has done it again.
According to the Sunday Night Football report, the Dallas Cowboys led the NFL in terms of total home attendance with 841,192 total fans through nine games at AT&T Stadium this year.
The New York Giants were the next total with 688,266.
There are obviously many factors at play here: fan loyalty and passion … a winning team (12-5 overall and 8-1 at home) … the NFL’s third-largest stadium (behind MetLife Stadium and Lambeau Field alone) – but a stadium that is its own drawcard, even for fans of the other team.

As Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones predicted it would happen a little earlier in the day.

January 3 NFL MOVE Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s on-field collapse rocked the sports world Monday night, when the 24-year-old went into cardiac arrest during the first quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
Hamlin remains in critical condition in the ICU at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. And on Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys and all NFL teams showed support for the safety for the second year, as every Twitter profile picture for the league and its team was changed to jersey No. 3 with the message “Pray for Damar.”
The game between the Bengals and the Bills was temporarily suspended before being postponed entirely on Monday night. On Tuesday, the league revealed that the game will not be played this week and that there is currently no timetable for resuming action.

After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals game will not be restarted this week.

WIVB-TV reported Monday night on Twitter that Beasley is back in Buffalo, with their reporter citing a tweet Beasley liked, which claims Beasley was on a flight from Baltimore to Buffalo.
Beasley, 33, a native of Little Elm, came into the NFL out of SMU with the Cowboys before moving to Buffalo. He retired from the NFL just two games into his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in early October.

DECEMBER 12 MEDICAL MONDAY In addition to offensive tackle Terence Steele now out for the year with a serious injury, defensive end Johnathan Hankins is dealing with a strained calf from Sunday’s win over the Texans, coach Mike McCarthy says is “significant.”
The Cowboys believe defensive end Dorance Armstrong, wearing protective boots after Sunday’s game, could play with his sore ankle this week at Jacksonville.

INJURY ISSUES DECEMBER 11 The Dallas Cowboys posted a last-minute 27-23 win over the Texans on Sunday, but had some losses along the way.
The most bothersome: starting right tackle Terence Steele left the game with a knee injury that the Cowboys say they are “very concerned,” with an MRI to come.

Pollard scored from 11 yards out to cap a nine-play, 76-yard TD drive in Week 14 here at AT&T Stadium.

DECEMBER 3: DEION DECISION Deion Sanders has officially announced that he will be Colorado’s next head coach.
Sanders went 27-5 over three seasons at Jackson St. and he got some of the best recruits in the nation.
The announcement came just after Sanders led Jackson State to its second straight SWAC title.
Jackson State defeated Southern 43-24 in the title game, capping the school’s first undefeated season.
“There were several highly qualified and impressive candidates interested in becoming Colorado’s next football coach, but they lacked the pedigree, knowledge, and ability to connect with student-athletes like Deion Sanders,” Colorado athletic director . Rick George said in the statement. “Coach Prime will not only energize our fans, I am confident that he will lead our program back to national prominence while leading a high quality and high character team.”
Sanders, 55, played 14 seasons in the NFL, five of which he spent with the Cowboys. During his time in Dallas, he compiled 159 tackles, 14 interceptions, and two touchdowns. Sanders was a member of the Cowboys’ 1995 championship squad that defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 in Super Bowl XXX. DECEMBER 2 ANTONIO BROWN TROUBLE Antonio Brown reports the idea of returning to the NFL, sometimes praising the Dallas Cowboys as his employer.
That’s not going to happen. Instead, Brown faces real-life problems as he faces legal action again after a recent alleged domestic incident that led to an arrest warrant being issued for the former NFL standout.
Brown, 34, is reportedly wanted by police for a battery charge stemming from an incident earlier this week involving the mother of four of Brown’s six children at his south Tampa home.
On Thursday night, NBC News reported that Tampa police are still trying to arrest Brown after multiple attempts have been made outside his home. The department told NBC that Brown is “not communicating with police officers.”
WFTS-TV Tampa reported that officers were at Brown’s home for more than an hour, and used a megaphone to call to him from his front door. A Tampa police statement shows Brown and a woman were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical earlier this week, with Brown allegedly saying “if she came into the house, he would shoot her in front of the police,” according to court documents.

TP numbers? He had a career-high 189 scrimmage yards (109 receiving, 80 rushing) and two TDs on Sunday.
Our friend at PFF, Marcus Mosher, writes: “Tony Pollard’s breakout season is upon us. He suddenly turned into one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL, giving a player who arguably is the best in the league at the moment.”
Over the past four games, the Cowboys have scored 141 points per game and averaged 412.8 yards of offense. That’s better than they were a year ago when they were the No. 1 ranked offense. 1 by the NFL.

NOVEMBER 22 BRAIDER IN TEXAS THE TROUBLE? The Texas State Securities Board has reportedly expanded its investigation into the operations and bankruptcy of cryptocurrency platform FTX to now include the activities of celebrities such as the NFL’s Tom Brady and the NBA’s Stephen Curry.
Bloomberg News first reported the latest in the investigation, which is looking into potential securities law violations.

This comes on the heels of news of a class action lawsuit being filed that names Curry and Brady and other celebrities and claims they, among others, “controlled, promoted, aided and abetted” in the alleged scheme to “strongly market” FTX – which the filing describes as “truly a house of cards” and a “Ponzi scheme.”

NOVEMBER 16 TAKK IN The Dallas Cowboys have made another move. The Cowboys signed defensive end Takk McKinley to the practice squad after hosting him for a workout over the summer.
McKinley is a former first round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft taken by the Atlanta Falcons under then coach Dan Quinn. McKinley played four seasons in Atlanta before playing his most recent two with the Browns and Rams.
The move comes on the heels of Tuesday’s signing of another “name” player looking for a reboot as former Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway joined the club via the practice squad.
CENTER TRIALS NOVEMBER 15 The Cowboys have moved rookie UDFA center Alex Lindstrom to (practice squad) IR and now need help, a source tells CowboysSI.com, with three prospects getting tryouts here inside the Star.
Beau Benzschawel played for Wisconsin and went undrafted in 2019.
Brock Hoffman is a rookie UDFA from Virginia Tech.
Arizona drafted Michal Menet in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft out of Penn State.
Dallas’ starting center continues with Tyler Biadasz, while Lindstrom has been working as a backup.
NO 15 ROCK-BOTTOM RAMS The Los Angeles Rams will be without their top offensive weapon for at least four weeks after placing star wide receiver Cooper Kupp on injured reserve, Rams Sean McVay announced.
Kupp was injured during the Rams’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday with a high ankle sprain he suffered late in the game.
Kupp will miss at least four weeks and undergo tightrope surgery to repair the injury. Recovery from tightrope surgery is typically five to six weeks, according to reports.
McVay did not rule Kupp out for the season.
Kupp is the Rams’ overwhelming leader in most receiving stats, and currently ranks second in the NFL in receptions (75), fifth in targets (98), fifth in yards (812) and fifth place in contact (6).

NOV 13 DALLAS TIED 7-ALL Cowboys at Packers was mostly about Dallas’ ability to get close to the goal line … but also about scoring once in the first quarter and a half.
CeeDee Lamb has a TD catch from QB Dak Prescott as the receiver came swinging out of the backfield … but with a change for Dallas to go up 14-0, Prescott tossed an end zone interception.
And with 4:54 left in the first half at Lambeau Field, Aaron Rodgers answered with a deep TD pass to rookie Christian Watson to tie the score at 7-all.
NOVEMBER 12 BOCA AND TILLERY? The Los Angeles Chargers are waiving former first-round defensive tackle Jerry Tillery — and the Dallas Cowboys, always looking to shore up a good defense (although they have some challenges as they prepare for Sunday at Green Bay) piece of the action.
But there is a problem – the problem of being too good.
The 6-6, 295-pound Tillery fell out of favor with the Chargers coaching staff this year as he recorded just eight snaps before being waived on Friday. So the 2019 NFL first round pick will get a fresh start somewhere…

NOVEMBER 1 SUSPENDED RIDLEY … TRADE?! Calvin Ridley’s weird story just keeps getting a little weirder.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who are in dire need of difference makers, about a year ago explored the idea of trading for Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley.
But there were a few problems along the way.
Initially, the talented receiver left Atlanta citing mental health reasons; apparently he was considering retirement.
Then, the Falcons engineered a trade for him to the Eagles – but voluntarily pulled out of the deal because the Falcons knew Ridley was about to receive a one-year suspension for betting on NFL games.
The Falcons did so in good faith. And now they do something else: He is trading with Jags who have long been interested in what the NFL Network terms “complicated deal” that could net in the end Atlanta picks second and fifth round.
NOV 1 WR DEAL Put this in the category of “Do Something” moves that don’t make a lot of sense – or, at least, wouldn’t make sense in Dallas.
The Bears traded a second-round pick for a receiver in Chase Claypool who has some mediocre production (including one TD catch this year and zero catches on two targets for the Steelers last week) but was somewhat on Dallas’ level. radar…
But no. Not for a second round pick. … which could be entirely overpriced for Dallas to consider in conversations with Brandin Cooks, a much more proven individual than Claypool.

NOV 1 RO COST The Cowboys continue to be linked to pass-rush trade rumors (see Bradley Chubb) … not that we quite see the logic.
But just in case, it is instructive to know the price.
We know it because the Los Angeles Rams offer for Panthers edge Brian Burns, via. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, consisting of two first-round picks.
The Panthers apparently declined the Rams’ offer of those two first-rounders because they would come in 2024 and 2025; that’s all the Rams have.
But it could also show how much Carolina doesn’t want to lose their primary sack artist.
And it could indicate how likely it is that Dallas travels this path.
NOVEMBER 1 JOKER Kareem Hunt had just entered Cleveland’s 32-13 win over Cincinnati on “Monday Night Football” and it was Halloween. So it made perfect sense that he would celebrate his way.
“I mean, I’m down for whatever, man,” Hunt said, per NFL.com. “I’m a football player and this is a business. So I’m ready to do whatever they decide with me.”
“It’s go somewhere else or here, it doesn’t matter. I love the game of football,” said Hunt, who must also love being “The Joker” on Halloween, since he did his post-match interview in. A mask related to Batman.
OCTOBER TO NFC EAST? The Philadelphia Eagles are rumored to be interested in Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt. OCTOBER 31 BRANDIN COOKS RELATIONSHIP In our two recent conversations with Texans sources, the organization continues to play down the idea of trading receiver Brandin Cooks.
And there are compelling reasons to move him, as 1) we believe Houston would ask for a second-round pick in return and 2) he has an $18 million price tag locked in for 2023.
But would it help Dallas or another controversial team? Undoubtedly, the vet managed to “become outstanding” in Houston (in seven starts this year the 29-year-old has 32 catches for 354 yards and one touchdown) despite shaky QB play.
He’s a perennial 1,000-yard rusher and now has his name up in two point averages, in Dallas and New York. Are the Cowboys really interested in spending what there is to do here?
OCTOBER 31 STEPHEN JONES WITH US IN PROGRESS? Despite Jerry Jones’ “itch” and “risky” attitude, CEO Stephen Jones said the Cowboys are “comfortable” in the world.

October 31 NAMED IN NEW ZEALAND Amid numerous reports that the Patriots are fielding calls for multiple players, names like right tackle Isaiah Wynn, running back Damien Harris and safety Jabril Peppers have been mentioned among the latest rumors. the Patriots. 2) Texans receiver Brandin Cooks. Cooks is an excellent weapon, but the Texans, according to a source, would only listen if offered a second-round pick. That, along with Cooks’ 2023 salary of $18 million, makes this a non-starter.
3) Panthers guard Austin Corbett. He is involved with the Bills coaching staff and the Panthers are in fire sale mode. (Although they insist they are not.)
4) Panthers offensive lineman Cam Erving. Erving is a former Cowboy and, with all due respect, he’s just a man.
5) Lions safety DeShon Elliott. Based on his time with the Lions – with a defense that seems to give up 35 points at the drop of a hat – this isn’t very appealing.
6) Commanders running back Antonio Gibson. The front office in Washington is on record as refusing to try to deal with Gibson. (We also put Cleveland’s Kareem Hunt into this category — as a name to explore, at least.)
7) Falcons center Matt Hennessy. A deep piece for the Bills? Definitely. But keep in mind that the Falcons are – in a great spot – entering Week 8 – in first place in the NFC South … which means they have no reason to be sellers.
8) Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy. A 2020 first-round draft pick, Jeudy would probably love to get out of Denver’s mess. The Broncos, however, would be wise to ask for an exorbitant trade price here.
There is some Cowboys related gossip here but we say more smoke than fire.
By the way, and this goes for Cooks and the Steelers’ Chase Claypool and maybe free agent Odell Beckham Jr., too: I wonder if the Bills’ front office is as obsessed with the idea of adding Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis as it is clear that the community?
9) Bears running back David Montgomery. He is in the last year of his rookie contract, so this would be a rental. Do the Bills need to add a “power back”?
10) 49ers safety Tarvarius Moore. The 49ers see themselves as contenders, not “sellers” – as evidenced by their willingness to pay a price for Christian McCaffrey that the Bills wouldn’t meet.
OCTOBER 30 AIKMAN NEEDED A member of the Dallas Cowboys’ “family” is trying to help with his opinion – and his name happens to be “Troy Aikman.”
“In today’s NFL you better have an offense if you’re going to win games,” Aikman told TMZ when asked if his old team should look to add a wide receiver. “The way you are evil is that you have weapons, and you need to have more than one or two.”

That’s the guy Irvin pinpointed, it seems. Aikman doesn’t have a name; he just has an educated opinion. A receiver trade, Aikman said, would certainly help them.
Worth noting: Aikman issued these comments about Dallas “needing some offense” before the Cowboys beat the Bears 49-29 to move to 6-2 in the bye.
October 26 SINGLE INSTALLATIONS? We have to mention that Dallas’ deal for Johnathan Hankins came before the Eagles’ trade for Robert Quinn. So no, Dallas did not “respond” to the “arms race” there. But that doesn’t mean some don’t want a different answer, especially with rumors swirling that Philly may be in the hunt for Saints superstar running back Alvin Kamara.
