SoulPhamm is entering its final weeks of testing and still has slots available on its new cheerleading/stomp & shake team for girls aged 11-21. We will also consider undergraduate students up to 25 years old. Beginners are welcome. This will be a traveling and competitive team that will also perform in parades and high profile events.
The program runs Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Newark YMCA through June 2023 and offers additional evening virtual programs at no additional cost (tutoring, test prep, goal setting, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, fitness/wellness- being, dance/step clinics). Participants will also occasionally practice stepping and cheerleading for a fuller experience.
TRIALS ARE FREE. The papers are distributed on site. Trials are simple – contestants simply participate in regular practice so coaches can assess their skill level.
THEN, THE COST FOR THE SEASON IS: $40 sign-up (which can be paid in small amounts by March 31) and $20 per month. All artists and athletes will purchase their own uniforms.

- Tiny: Four to six years old.
- Mini: From five to eight years old.
- Youth: 5 to 11 years old.
- Junior: From 5 to 14 years old.

But others are afraid it’s too late to make it big. We’re here to calm your nerves and get you motivated for your very first class!
At what age should you join cheer? They will learn self-confidence early and overcome stage fright. “I would say seven or eight is a good time to start. Around this age, they really know what they want. Falling before that would be a plus, but competitive cheerleading should start around that age so they’re not too shy and have that edge.
