Pleasant Grove Cheerleaders Take Home Big Silver State Trophy

Friday the 13th surely wasn’t unlucky for a group from Texarkana, as congratulations go to the Pleasant Grove High cheerleaders who placed second in their division at the UIL Texas State Championships.

When you think about how many schools there are in the Great State of Texas, the competition is tough. On Friday, January 13, the Pleasant Grove High School cheerleaders placed second in the 2023 UIL Spirit State Championship at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Teams were judged on their abilities to make game day an engaging and exciting event. The squad competition consists of three categories: Band Dance, Crowd Driving, and Fight Song. In the preliminary round, each category is done separately. Only the top 20 teams from each division (1A-6A) are selected to proceed to the final round, which is the State Championship. There were 71 teams competing in the 4A Division II preliminary round, including PG.

PG Cheerleaders – Second Place in State

The Pleasant Grove High School cheerleaders finished in the top 20 in the preliminary round and earned their spot in the finals. When the final competition ended, Pleasant Grove took home the silver. The Pleasant Grove ladies also placed third overall at the 2022 UIL Spirit State Championships.

The team is led by Shera Hopkins. Congratulations ladies and Coach Hopkins, Texarkana is proud of all of you.
