Laura Vikmanis refused to let age get in the way of her dream when she became an NFL cheerleader deep into her 40s.
Vikmanis had long dreamed of dancing for the Cincinnati Bengals, but family life and her two children prevented her from doing so.
But after the divorce, the American was looking for ways to boost her self-esteem and tried her hand at Bengalis. After failing to make it to the final cut in 2009, she became part of the team the following year.
Now 54, Vikmanis is considered a pioneer for women who still want to pursue their dreams without getting in the way of age.

“I asked myself what made me feel good, and it was dancing. I’ve been dancing since I was three years old. I went to a soccer game and saw the girls and thought, ‘I can do that!'” she told CBS in 2011.
“I wondered if I was too old, but I looked at the girls and realized that we can all bring something different to the table.
“I hope that there is one person who is inspired by my story, that fear doesn’t rule their life and that their confidence is crushed. You have to dream big or it’s not going to happen.”
Vikmanis even suggested that dancing has made her a better mother to her two daughters, who also tried cheerleading and now compete.
Vikmanis was a member of the Bengals cheerleading team until she was 46, and Hollywood directors were approached to make a movie about her incredible story.
It has yet to make it to the big screen, but Vikmanis, who is now a dietician, has written the book It’s Not About Pom-Poms. in 2012
She remains a Bengals fan and a historic name in the NFL, even though her record was nearly broken by Sharon Simmons.
In 2012, Simmons was 55 years old when she tried out for the Dallas Cowboys, but unfortunately she didn’t make the team.
