HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A 30-year-old man died after a police shooting in Holly Springs Tuesday night, according to the police department.
Police said Ryan Eric Schlosser “attacked officers with a knife” before the shooting.
Officers went to Cobalt Creek Way in Holly Springs shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday after reports of a person who “acted erratically, verbally threatened residents and blocked access to their driveway and garage,” according to a department news release.
Schlosser, who lives on Cobalt Creek Way, was still standing in a driveway on the short residential street when police arrived. He was taken to the hospital but later died of his injuries, according to police.
The department said an officer was taken to the hospital but was not seriously injured.
Police said the two officers involved, James Colucci and Edgar Hernandez, had been with the Holly Springs Police Department since early 2020.
Colucci also had more than three years of experience with another North Carolina law enforcement agency before joining the department, police said.
The department said it planned to release the 911 calls to the public.
The Holly Springs Police Department said the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating, which is standard practice after a police shooting.
