The Westfield Goldenhawks Midget League Football and Cheerleading recently presented the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation with a $300 donation.

During the month of October, the league’s 30 Midget and Rookie Cheerleaders raised funds for the hospital to bring awareness and support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The league purchased pink cheerleaders and breast cancer awareness socks for the team to wear during their football games during October. The money raised came from donations from the girls and their families. The team presented its gift to the hospital at the end of 2022.

“This is an extraordinary group of athletes,” says Coach Melissa Zakrajsek. “These girls wanted to do something to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and they knew they wanted their donation to stay local to Westfield, the community where they live, learn and play. I’m proud of them.”

Goldenhawks is Westfield’s youth football and cheerleading league, supporting over 80 local youth athletes ages 6-13 in football and cheerleading each a year. For more information about Westfield Goldenhawks, please contact westfieldgoldenhawks@gmail.com.

“This gift from such a young group of donors speaks volumes and will allow AHN Westfield Radiology Department to focus on key areas that help women before, during and after a breast cancer diagnosis. We thank this group of impressive girls for their support which is crucial to helping patients every step of the way at our community hospital,” said Patricia Gaughan DiPalma, executive director of the WMH Foundation.
