MOUNT VERNON, New York (WABC) – A 15-year-old girl who pleaded guilty to killing a 16-year-old cheerleader in Mount Vernon was sentenced Tuesday.
The Westchester County District Attorney announced that the 15-year-old girl, whose age was not identified, was sentenced to three to nine years in state prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in April. 2022 made for 16-year-old Kayla Green.
“A young suspect killed Kayla Green senselessly, and in doing so, left the community in turmoil,” said Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah.
Green’s fans left the courtroom Tuesday to see how the criminal justice system is going, but they were not happy with the justice.
Green’s mother Laverne Gordon said, “She was killed and she’s going to be out in three years to live her life, to have a family, to have a career. My daughter will never see that.”

Green was the captain of the cheerleading squad and was celebrating the basketball team’s victory in the state capital parade on April 8 when she was stabbed not far from City Hall.
The picture of her stabbing was taken in a cell phone video and the picture of her being stabbed hours ago was taken in the room she was sleeping in and it was shared on social media.
The family destroyed the Mount Vernon school system as well.
“They knew full well what this woman, this young woman, was doing in the school and that was a danger to all the young people in the school and they did nothing,” said Lauren Raysor, the family’s attorney.
Green was also an aspiring doctor. Her friends and lover remember her as a happy girl who always smiled.
