ATHENS, Ga. – A Monroe County woman who cheered on the University of Georgia’s national championship football team is preparing to say goodbye to her home away from home this semester.
“My whole life I’ve always wanted to go to Georgia, and on top of that, I’ve always wanted to cheer for Georgia,” says Macy Morris.
University of Georgia senior Macy Morris did just that. 13WMAZ was there when he accepted the offer from UGA with his friends and family.
At that time, she knew she would also achieve her other dream of becoming a college cheerleader.
The Monroe County native and Mary Parsons High School graduate had to try out for the cheerleading squad every year and the team won the national college championship not once, not twice, but every year.
“A big part of my college identity is cheerleading, so if I hadn’t done one of those years, I don’t know what I would have done,” Morris says.
He says they work out 3 or 4 times a week and lift weights. He never thought those long days and nights would put him to the test in two national championship games.
“Not at all. Especially the first one, I cried for 2 hours straight. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much in my life,” says Morris.
Morris is a double major in biology and psychology. He will leave UGA with a specific event as one of his most incredible experiences with the school.
