In Tori’s Notebook is a weekly series where Tori opens up her game notebook to look back at her notes, questions and observations from the latest Falcons game. Tori breaks down his thoughts and gives him the details of what happened, and why it’s so special. In Tori’s Notebook is supported by Microsoft Surface.
FLOWER BRANCH, GA — I’m nothing if not a woman of my word. Therefore, it will not surprise you that the phrase, “boy-boy fighter” appears in the title of my notebook this week.
In Arthur Smith’s press conference after the Browns win, I told him as much, because I really thought that was the key to the success of the Falcons on Sunday.
“When you get a line like this, that’s what you call being in,” Smith said. “Proud of those guys. We knew it was going to be a big battle of guys … and I always thought the team that ran the ball better today was going to win. That’s true, thank you.”
I’ll be honest with you: This week’s notebook is full of serious topics. And really, you should have known this is where I was going! The story of the game, after all. Oh. Smith said as much postgame.
Yes, yes, there are many uses when it comes to rock climbing. Let’s break it down. Is it necessary?
This is the guy the Falcons want
This is who the Falcons want to be
A big question I have come this season is: Who are the 2022 Atlanta Falcons? What is their identity? See the article : Hillsdale College Cheerleaders List 2022-23.
Through four games, I feel I can answer this question. The description of the 2022 Atlanta Falcons is physical.
Look, the Falcons didn’t play perfectly. They have made mistakes. They are still stumbling. They have missed tackles and assignments on defense. Sure. It’s almost impossible to be perfect in this league. However, the Falcons show up with a body in their back pocket every time they kick the ball. That’s the truth.
In my post-game feed, I made a statement that the Falcons’ red zone defense in the last two games not only kept Atlanta in games, but in position to win. Looking back over the last four games, I’m starting to feel the same way about their bodies.
The blocking on the offensive line is as good as we’ve seen in Atlanta in years. Age, I tell you.
This is an up-tempo front who easily doubles his sacks, throws for a loss and quarterback from last year. Don’t believe me? Here are the numbers:
Throughout 2021, this defense accumulated 18 sacks, 58 tackles for loss and 59 quarterback hits. In four games in 2022, this defense has eight sacks, 15 tackles for loss and 22 quarterback hits.
On Sunday, the Falcons knew physicality would be the difference.
“We knew the final goal,” said Arnold Ebiketie after the game. “We knew we had to dominate the front. We knew it was going to be a physical game with the type of backs they have with Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb. We had to lock in, hit early. them … The goal is to stop the run and be more physical than them. I think we did a good job of doing that.”
Take care. Feeding. Caleb. Huntley. Dagnabbit.
Keep. Feeding. Caleb. Huntley. Dagnabbit.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t break down a 10 play where the Falcons saw the ball… well… 10 times. On that drive, Caleb Huntley had eight carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. This may interest you : TikTok video inspires teen NKY to launch her own business. Pretty good for a guy who just got promoted from the practice squad on Saturday.
I wrote this book after his third carry, which resulted in a 14-yard pick up for Atlanta, which brought them to the end of the third quarter. It was interesting because this car – to me – was like the car (and one of the main stories) of the game.
The Falcons needed a spark at this point, as much of the third quarter consisted of three-and-outs by both teams. The Falcons defense just came up short on Atlanta’s side of the field. The offense needed to do its part. It was necessary – as Smith said – “to make a statement.” So, they pulled Huntley out, and splashed in Tyler Allgeier. Together, they got Atlanta in the end zone.
“We knew we wanted to get back to our game,” Smith said of the decision to hand the ball to his then-teenager.
After the game, Smith thanked track coach Michael Pitre for making the decision to give Huntley a chance. Smith said it was Pitre who came to him and suggested Huntley make some substitutions.
“He was right,” Smith said, and the “double agent” turned into a drive showed Atlanta’s improvement in running the ball. For Smith, something – he said – made him happy in this crime.
“You don’t creep up on someone. People know we want to run in football. That’s what drives you,” he said. “It’s not like that every week. We know the competition, but when you can run the ball when they know you’re going to run it speaks volumes about your guys. .”
In the end, the Falcons amassed over 200 rushing yards on Sunday, with Allgeier (almost) quietly averaging 8.4 yards per carry and Huntley over five yards a carry. Kaleb McGary and Chris Lindstrom continue to impress on the right side of the scoring line. According to Next Gen Stats, Allgeier and Huntley combined to rush nine times for 97 yards outside rushing on the right side.
So – by all accounts – a win for the Falcons moving forward.
Where was Amari Cooper?
All right. Let’s be honest, here. No one was really talking about Cooper in the week leading up to the game, right? Almost everything coming out of Falcons camp in Week 4 is about Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, and it should be considered that Chubb is the NFL’s leading offense and that the Browns’ offense will lead the way. This may interest you : Kobe Smith. leaks during ownership (even).
However, when you look at the entirety of the Browns’ offense, you can’t – and shouldn’t – forget Cooper. In fact, it looks like the Falcons didn’t. Entering Sunday’s game in Atlanta, Cooper was coming off back-to-back 100-plus receiving yard games. He averaged 11 yards per carry on the season, and is a valuable addition to the Browns’ often stagnant running game.
On Sunday, the Falcons held Cooper to just one shot on four field goals. It was nine yards, and a big difference to Cooper’s 101 yards against the Jets and Steelers.
Oh, and let’s not forget the role of the forward defense in this, either. Grady Jarrett’s fourth-quarter sack shouldn’t be dismissed, but neither should Ebiketie’s back-to-back triples and Ta’Quon Graham’s power play. reducing Jacoby Brissett’s sack. They all play a role in this, too.

I know what you’re thinking: Tori, what did you underline? And you’re out of ink to do it?
The answer is no, the ink is not out, but let me say what I have written. A quote by Lorenzo Carter. All right. I lied. Not the quote I underlined, but a time stamp: 45 seconds. That was the case with my recording when Carter said something I couldn’t help but notice.
“We’ve got dogs. We’re deep,” he said. “As a team, first of all, we don’t have big stars, or guys that everyone looks up to, but when it comes, everyone will fight. That’s what I like. “
This quote – here – is how I think about this list 2022.
If the identity of this Falcons team is physical, then this quote is its rallying cry. Sure, those who are looking out there know who Kyle Pitts is. They can also tell you a little about Drake London. Oh, is that Cordarrelle Patterson boy? They might say it’s nice to see him doing what he’s doing at 31 years old. But is that different? Carter is right.
This team is stacked with young, raw talent and players on one-year deals just looking for a chance to make a name for themselves. in 2022. Perhaps this is the vision that will inspire the fight in this team as each new week progresses.
And be honest? This quote will stay with me for a while.
