Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce waited all week to respond to people who underestimated them. There were those who called their home stadium Arrowhead “Burrowhead” because Joe Burrow beat them in overtime last season.
The mayor of Cincinnati took the time to remind everyone of the nickname and also shared how Mahomes never won against Burrow and had a 3-0 loss record to the Bengals quarterback. While Cincinnati has felt wronged by the league many times this season, their constant trolling has moved the chip back to the Chiefs’ shoulder.
As it happened, they had a 23-20 home win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Chiefs are now going to the Super Bowl while the Bengals are going home. They did so with Patrick Mahomes recovering from an ankle injury and Travis Kelce recovering from a back injury. After the win, they teamed up to put Cincinnati and their cheerleaders on the spot in the post-game interview.
During an interview with the winning Chiefs quarterback, Travis Kelce stepped in to announce the verdict, saying:
Patrick Mahomes continued during the interview, casting a shadow over Joe Burrow. The Cincinnati quarterback is known to celebrate his victories with cigars, and the Kansas City quarterback mocked him by saying,
It was clear that they felt that Kansas City felt their quarterback had been snubbed all week, talking about Burrow replacing Mahomes as the AFC’s top quarterback. For all his accomplishments and phenomenal talent, Patrick Mahomes won the Super Bowl, the league’s MVP award, and another is likely on the way, which Joe Burrow doesn’t. Orlando Brown Jr. he was quick to demand respect for his quarterback after the game.
Despite Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s comments, a healthy respect on show after the game
While there was clearly some brewing between the two teams and quarterbacks, both quarterbacks clearly felt they had a tight match that could have gone either way. They also realized, presumably, that they might see each other more often in the coming seasons. This may interest you : “Dogs eat ‼️” Evan Engram features in Home Opener win vs ….
