Lemont Cheerleading advances to the IHSA State Finals

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School will send its competitive cheer team to the IHSA state finals on February 3-4.

The team, which captured its seventh South Suburban Conference title earlier this year, placed third at sectional competition, Tony Hamilton, Director of Schools and Community Relations at LHS told Patch.

According to the IHSA website, Lemont placed third in the intermediate division at the Bradley-Bourbonnais High School sectional. The top five teams at sectionals advance to the state finals.

This is the 18th straight year LHS has advanced to the state cheerleading finals, Hamilton said. This may interest you : Muriel McGowan celebrates 106 with his favorite team. It is one of only five programs to advance to the state finals each season since cheerleading became an IHSA sport in 2006.

Lemont earned a score of 90.90, defeating fourth-place Washington (score of 88.77) and fifth-place Marian (85.75). The top two teams at sectionals were Providence Catholic High School (95.10) and Morris (91.98).

“Its 13 trophies (six 1st, five 2nd, two 3rd) are the most in IHSA State Series history, and its six state titles are tied with Lincoln-Way East for the most in state history ,” Hamilton said. Read also : NFL fans react to wild photos of Baltimore Ravens cheerleaders.

The program is the only one in the state to finish in the top ten every year since 2006.

Lemont will compete Feb. 3-4 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.
